Hello! I usually study around 8-10 hours a day and am able to stay focused throughout the day with this simple tricks.
1.The right Plan
- Most of my friends used to plan their days, day by day which means not having any clue what you'll be doing in that day when you wake up and that ,for me, is a deal breaker. It gives me motivation to know what I will be doing in that day when I wake up, so I plan my week from sunday to sunday. After making a plan for the week, I like to prioritize the material from the hardest to easiest. Doing the hardest or the one that you don't want to do the most from the start of your day makes it easier to finish up the tasks.
2.Exercising
- You might think that this has nothing to do with being able to study for at least 10 hours but it is such a big impact for me because it helps to clear my thoughts and freshens my mind. I am obviously not saying that you should cross-fit everyday but by exercising I mean, an hour long cardio (jogging, running, jump rope, swimming, etc.). Cardiovascular exercises are proven to be the most effective type of exercise when it comes to concentration and alertness. I read this book called 'Spark the revolutionary new science of exercise and the brain' by John Ratey a year ago and it basically changed my whole opinion about exercising's effect on long-term memo.
3.Clean Eating
- Before starting this step, I'd like to say that these are for long term situations. Obviously by just eating clean for 2 days you won't be seeing such a big difference on your productivity and else but even a month of the regularization of these make such a big difference. By clean eating I mean, eating more of home-made dishes and staying away from snacks as possible as you could. I did a research about food and it's effects on learning in 2020 and since then I have been eating food that are more healthy for the brain to work up, I guess that is a way to define that, lol. It is a known fact that mentally tiring tasks are the ones that drain our energy the fastest, due to that it is very important to eat food that will sustain the energy level. Studies show that eating food that has low GI maintains the energy for a longer time period. Oats, pepper, strawberries, beans, cashews, peanuts, lentils, soy milk, asparagus, broccoli, rice bran are some of them. The difference between eating low GI and high GI food is that low GI foods give the glucose slowly into your bloodstream where as high GI foo have the opposite effect.
4.Taking Breaks When Needed
- Some people try to study for 8 hours straight and that is never productive in my opinion. You can work yourself up to a more low number such as 3-4 hours straight but still try to give breaks after 2 hours of studying. The normal period of time in which our brain stays focused is around an hour and half but this depends on the person. Your focus starts to drop by after an hour and it eventually comes to an end. Therefore, taking a 10-15 min break in every 2 hours or so will help you to restore your concentration. Using these breaks efficiently is also an another important point though. Do not go into your phone or any other device that might make you procrastinate your work. My go to activity is either going to the balcony and drinking coffee or going out for a quick walk on the neighborhood.
