Automatic drawing(or how I allowed myself to play)

I did an experiment a while back. I needed, through intuitive knowing to develop my creative side, nowadays it is more I need to let that creation out! Life cannot flow if stagnant in our expression. So express!

The experiment was based on the concept of automatic writing. In automatic writing you ask a question, state an intent, shut off the mind, go into a clear state, allow whatever to come through. You let the words flow on the page.

In the case of automatic drawing I found a random paint website Sketchpad and randomly selected a brush, and allowed the flow. I just scribbled randomly then stopped to see what was there. Upon reviewing the randomness I would sometimes see an overall image or design in my mind’s eye and fill in the blanks so to speak. The result is something that spoke to me in a deeper way. The shapes, the colours, it was healing to me. I call this one Wanderer.

It is not about how the end result looks, it is a deeper connection to yourself, allowing a dialogue, a healing. It was through this what I call experiment, but really was just me logically ascertaining a route to achieve a childish outcome and play…uh-huh, the intellectualism oh my. I am seeing adult colouring books these days(a bigger call in the collective consciousness to play). The act of playing with colours, something so simple is liberating.

Nowadays if in a funk or just not feeling it, I put on some tunes, drown out the mind chatter and doodle. You would be surprised at how nurturing it is to allow this. Find something simple for yourself, find that meditative space, it comes in many forms. The results can be amazing, not necessarily the outer results but more importantly the inner.
