Maine-ly Acadia National Park on Market Friday

<center>Welcome to *Maine!* This is just a tiny piece of the dramatic coastline that is part of the Acadia National Park. In actuality, it has a 64-mile coastline and this is just a sample of it. It is located on Mount Desert Island and shares borders with the coastal town of Bar Harbor. It is often photographed and on my list of most visited by my family. I like to stand on the rocks, daring the waves to crash around me.</center>

<center>This relationship benefits both. Bar Harbor is known as the Gateway to Acadia and people come to Bar Harbor as a jump-off to the park. There are views that are proliferating in the shadows of the rocky cliffs, the waves constant motion eroding them, changing their look.</center>

<br>

<center>Below is a map of the area, hopefully making it easier for you to see where I am talking about. It is an island as you can see, with quaint little fishing villages all around. I go there a few times a year, just because it is pretty, peaceful and they have the prettiest leaves in the Autumn. Road trip to Bar Harbor!! Who's in?</center>

<center>Acadia has pink granite! See below? That is granite. The entire area is granite, mixed with forests of spruce trees and pitch pine. It is more beautiful in person, but, of course it is not nearly the finished product.</center>

<center>The Cadillac Mountain Granite is amongst the largest bodies of granite on the island, and it is also one of the oldest in the region (~420 million years old). Younger, dark-colored igneous dikes (diabase) cuts across lighter-colored intrusive igneous rock (granite) As read on the National Park Sign.</center>

<center>This is one of the views of Cadillac Mountain, and, at 1,530 feet (466 meters), is the highest point on the North Atlantic seaboard. A little-known fun fact? It is the first place to see the sunrise in the United States, but you have to do that between the dates of October 7 and March 6th. Before or after that time, all bets are off.</center>

<center>One of the most striking surface features you notice on Cadillac Mountain are the deep scratches or gouges in the bare granite that seem to follow north-south directions. The reason is quite simple. This area has undergone millions of years of climate changes during which there were several enormous continental glaciers that squashed the land and sheered off mountaintops. The last glacier retreated about 18,000 years ago, was over 1 mile high, and reached as far as 400 miles out to sea. It was so powerful that it actually shifted the orientation of the mountains from east-west to north-south. Well before these events, 360 - 380 million years ago during a time referred to as the Devonian Period, volcanic forces were at play. The magma chamber of a volcano collapsed. <center>Acadia is actually in a transitional zone of two ecoregions, the northern boreal forest, and the eastern deciduous forest. They also have places that have other hardwoods such as oak, beech, and maple there. What is boreal? It is a forest that is characterized by its varied coniferous type of trees. Many things about the area are distinctive, including the types of animals found there, birds, and some unique plants. It is unique in the fact that there is also a traditional forest and the two blend in perfect harmony.</center>

<center>Excuse me? Can someone follow those lobster pots! Bait your pot with salted herring. Make sure to put the dried fish in a lobster bag, which is just a mesh bag tied, which you need to tie to the inside of the pot. Good luck!</center>

<center>More raw granite. I say raw as it has a process before you can lay that on your countertop. But, in person, it is the prettiest shade of pink. The Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C. is doing a facelift after fifty years. They used the pink granite that is from one of the quarries up in the area. There is only a handful of them and it is this special granite that they used and want to replace with the same. </center>

<center>If you go into Bar Harbor, stop at *Into the Woods* 160 Main St. downtown. Everything is handcrafted using felled trees. The proceeds are put toward preserving Maine woodlands as wildlife and nature.</center>

<center>The merchandise was pretty incredible. I loved the birdhouses, but, really wanted to take the canoe home. They made dishes, bowls, and even a giant rocking horse that babies to grannies had to give a go to it. Before you ask, yes, I did. It was pretty tall and yes. I loved it.</center>

<center>Cannons were temporarily placed near the harbor at Egg Rock Island. A battery was established to protect the entrance to Frenchman Bay and the harbors of Bar Harbor and Winter Harbor. They make a great photo op too.</center>

Maine is very scenic, but, it doesn't have the amazing memorable stuff that tourist look for. Maybe now, if you like nature. But, not when you were a studenT. Hi, Ace!

Thank you so much for the words, @artywink ! Isn't that town adorable? So walkable and everything you need right there. It is kind of cool seeing all that granite, but, they do have quarry's around there that they take it out of. The granite that is near the coast has gone through so much with the constant water pelting it.

Once again you surprise with your #marketfriday post, a true travelogue. A journey in a place so beautiful and generous in views and landforms, from the mountains to the ocean. I'm glad I got to see the place you love so much that you go there several times a year. I'd do the same if I were nearby... I didn't understand how far it was from your house. 
I really like that you mix up the topics and soften the rules. If there's anything I don't like about Hive, it's the rigid and exclusive communities, so proud of their superiority. Of course, I understand the rationale for having rules and exclusivity but it kind of deviates from the much-vaunted absolute freedom that blockchain offers.

I do love this place and it is convenient for me to travel there. I go many places several times a year, but, the distance is not great and little planes are the way to get there from here. It's fast and easy. 

It is a plane ride or a long trip, at least 10 hours diving. Maybe a little less if there is no traffic. 

I am so happy that I can be flexible for the community, after all, things have changed because of Covid and we really have to make some allowances. I have veered off the path sometimes, but, it is that or I have nothing.  :))

You are so modest. It is not that you are failing, you are so busy with hands in many pots and you are a perfectionist. I love your posts and you delight me with them every time.

Sure, flying is a solution to save time. Otherwise, by car, you take the same time as I do to get to Thassos. It's so nice, one of the ultimate pleasures, to go to places you like, where you meet people you know, where you visit places you can't get bored of! Beyond wishing my close family well, my children to have a beautiful and independent life, for me remains the joy of traveling to places that are close and that I love.

That was a fun adventure. It's crazy to think about what the glaciers did. Where I am in Colorado was all a good mile beneath a glacier about 10,000 years ago. There is evidence of glacial activity everywhere if you know what you're looking for. So cool.

Well worthwhile paying to enter parks like this, seeped in beauty well maintained for everyone to enjoy, which reminds me most of our parks are paid parks too!

Lovely granite rock formations, water thundering below steep cliff, nice wood carvings to consider to purchase to take home with you as a reminder of a remote island rich in nature.

It is such a beautiful place, the water crashing against the rock, spraying everything in its' path. The pink granite is so much prettier in person, I was sorry it didn't come out better, but, perhaps next time, I will have better lighting.

A place I would thoroughly enjoy watching the water crashing in, the rocks do look fascinating. Photography never quite captures what the eye sees.

Stores with handcraft work from natural products always end up an adventure seeing how people use what they find.

Distant shores look welcoming, I know we have beauty here, now I long to move, experience more desolate places. Have a wonderful weekend Denise.

Such beautiful pics, perhaps the Tourism Board of Maine could use this post 😁. As I was reading the post, I kept wondering if there were gonna be any crabs or crab crates involved. I guess that is my stereotype of Maine, nothing but huge forests and crab fishermen, both perfect subjects for photography.

Aww, Acadia... I was there in the summer of 2010, long before I started to be interested in photography so the only picture I have from there is this random miserable blurred shot of the rocks.

That looks about how mine did too. I loved to vacation and travel and used to buy postcards because pictures from a cheap camera were terrible.

Haha that´s a good question :) Well, as someone with a pretty severe OCD, I generally like to have my stuff organized and ordered :D As far as photos are concerned, I have a separate file (album) in my laptop for every country (in some cases even region or city) that I visit. It´s quite easy to retrieve photos you need then as you know exactly where to reach...

The place is so amazing with blend of nature and war museum . Hope you had great day .Sea breeze is always connecting to my soul whenever i go to beach . Just throw all the daily work stress  at office and chill yourself at somewhere at beach with pint of local beer.

Well, that was a lovely visit to Arcadia!
It is so interesting.. the water, the rock formation, the fauna. and ooh, the shops... the decoy duck and other forms of birds They don't have pelicans...

It was a lovely visit! Isn't it such a wonderful place if you are a nature lover, They actually did have pelicans, I just couldn't show off all the birds he had carved.

It was amazing, @tali72  so much beauty right before my very eyes! I did enjoy it and the splash wasn't too bad. When it got more violent, I moved!

It is a pretty phenomenal place if you are into nature, which I believe we both are. Thunder Hole is amazing when you're standing right near an end you can hear the water rushing in and crashing on the rocks. There is no way I would want to be in that hole! All in all, it was a wonderful trip and no matter how many times I go there, I just love it!

Hello beautiful step before starting to work.
I'm not going to go to that park alone, when I get closer I want you to accompany me, okay?
It is beautiful and I love the pink rocks and the wildness of the sea.
I have also been sprayed by the waves without realizing it, at first you get scared then you laugh and then you freeze haha how many emotions.
Those places are magical, so many things to appreciate and the sea, I would love to meet it and meet you although I think I know you something hahaha.
Some lobsters to eat? I have only eaten once in Egypt, here they are very expensive so we make do with the prawns hahaha
Question: What kind of trees do you get when you plant kisses?
Although here as you know there is a lot of tree I think that with a kiss I would grow ginkgo biloba
It is a tree that fascinates me so beautiful its fan-shaped leaves.
Well, pretty, I'll give you my ticket and I get to work

Hello Beautiful! I love when I am surprised by the splash of the sea! I think when the sea calls and you don't answer, it tries to get your attention! It is so pretty there with all the wildlife and flowers. The trees, so many different kinds.

It is the pink granite (rocks) that I love about the Park. I had only seen it in the Smithsonian Museum... and guess where they mined it? At ACADIA! I know this because they will be renovating and they have come back for more. There are not many places that have natural pink granite.

I do love the ginko balboa! It is such an interesting tree! Do they have them near where you live? I have none here.  :)
