<center>Giving the gift of a night off from cooking was an unexpected treat. Who's coming? It was a long day and having someone else do the cooking sounded pretty good. I got up early and traveled to my other house on the shore, with the sole reason of mowing the lawn, to the tune of 3 acres of lawn. Not estate size, but, large enough to break two sweats or so. It takes four hours to drive and I was doing a roundtrip, so eight hours in travel, plus whatever time spent there. I finished mowing, knowing I just cannot turn my back on the just-sprouting garden, so I did a little bit of weeding. I chose to do the roundtrip by myself so that the entire family could complete the needful for that day, and we would meet up for dinner later in the day.</center>

<center>My girls couldn't have picked any better for this night. Texas Roadhouse is one of my favorite places to go for a dinner out. The dress is casual, The theme is decidedly Texas and we are pretty cool with that. It actually originated in Indiana, but, can you see it being called Indiana Roadhouse? It doesn't even roll off your tongue. Anyway, they serve Tex/Mex kind of food. A cross between Texan and Mexican. Did you see I caught a nice reflection in the window? It is the small things in life that make me smile.</center>

<center>Fresh baked bread - made from scratch. Every one of the chains has a baker on board. The bread comes with cinnamon honey butter which is absolutely warm mouth-watering good. It is an endless cycle. If you empty the bread basket, another hot one appears out of nowhere. When you are ready to leave, most will offer you a bag of fresh ones with butter to take home with you. *Yes, please!* Craving some? You can order them online at the Texas Roadhouse's site for a speedy pickup.</center>

<center>Typical atmosphere of casual Texas: a bar, televisions, people, and noise. Did I mention music? Texas music!  The noise? For some reason, the banter adds to the casual laid-back feeling. When I first went for the very first time, I waded through peanut shells that were on the floor. If you have a peanut allergy, I would say it is not a great place for you. Each table is decked out with a small bucket of peanuts and you are encouraged to toss them on the floor. I know what you are thinking, but, it is kind of fun and adds to the atmosphere. Barnyard, right? Try it, you will like it. Well, fast forward and the peanuts are at the table if requested, but no longer on the floor. To date, I know of three lawsuits from patrons that slipped on the peanut shells and were injured in their falls.</center>

<center> Hand-cut steaks! It is their thing. Every location has a butcher who works inside a 34-degree cooler while cutting. They offer different options for the entree, but, 44%, which is almost half of what is offered up is steak. However, there is a generous selection for those who are vegetarian.</center>

<center>Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of the mural they had. I was too close and it didn't frame up well, so, I skipped it. It didn't dawn on me that I might use this experience for 
a post. I know what you are thinking. Every day's experience should be captured. And yet, I can honestly say, it is not. Some experiences happen and the last thing I think of is to capture them. I will work on that. About the mural? Every one of their locations has a mural made special for that restaurant.</center>

<center>I am looking at the menu as I posted it and I am thinking it feels expensive to me. I know that they have gone up since I went there last. Yes, yes. Precovid. I really don't eat out that much unless I am traveling, which I have no choice. To be honest, I always split an entree, neither one of my girls can eat a whole one, so that works out to be more economical for us. But, bottom line, it is no longer the cheap, easy place it used to be. </center>

<center>What did I have? *Bacon Cheeseburger*
Crispy strips of bacon with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion served on a Texas-sized bun with steak fries and a pickle spear- the description right off the menu. I got cheddar jack instead of the white American and tomato on the side. I dislike when the whole sandwich slips because of the tomato. One of my girls split it with me because they are huge! That is my half. I would call that generous. There were four of us that went and our total bill was $50.00 without the tip which included a large Margarita. You can't have a southwestern slant on the dinner without one. I indulged and it was worthy. Do you have a favorite drink when you go out or even if you are home? </center>

I don't know. Whose BMW do you think it is? It is expensive, but, I split a meal as they are so huge. The pictured burger and fries were my portion of dinner. I thought it was not to bad for $5.50 - half the price of the meal.

I always hate mentioning price for that reason, but, it is the reality of it. Our food and everything costs more because they are paid more here, At the end of the month, we probably spend 75% of what we earn on expenses. 

So percentage wise, we probably spend the same. Your food is less expensive, but, still a major part of your budget, like ours.

Well, Denise, @dswigle, I feel the same way as you when I comment after five days, but I know I only respond to 10-20 comments, whereas you respond or comment to hundreds! 

This a gorgeous post, I so enjoyed reading it. You described the atmosphere at the Texas Roadhouse so well that I felt like I was there too. I'm sure I would love it. You say it's expensive, it probably is but know that in Romania the prices are almost the same, while the wages are much lower than in the US.

You drove 8 hours just to mow the lawn. That's great!
Didn't you have to cook a night for the family? Sometimes it's so nice.
Have you been to a restaurant? How nice, especially since you don't have to set the table, do the dishes, etc...

Hehe! Oh, you can hang out! :) 

The format is eclectic, it's true! There is no real format, just all over the place. Less so this day, but still it is not as organized as most people. 

Isn't the price of eating out expensive? I don't usually eat out unless I am traveling and many of the places like this (although they don't do it) have gone to shortcuts, compromising on taste. They use bottled sauces or sometimes frozen foods... it doesn't taste as good to me. If you go to a fast food restaurant like a burger or chicken place (eating on the run) they all taste alike. So, no thank you. 

So, to have to overpay and have it be not great? I would rather cook at home.  :)

I don't do a round trip to the shore on a normal basis, but, I can and do it once in a while. People want to know why I don't pay someone to mow out there. I have a riding lawnmower - that is sort of cheating, but it has three acres. 

I am glad you are still on the blockchain!

I prefer the same, home cooking. I rarely eat out... only when I'm on holiday, especially at the seaside. 
Apart from the way we write, I notice with pleasure that we are similar in many other ways...

How funny, we just got a gift card  given to us for Texas Roadhouse last night.  I have never been to one before, but I have heard of them. Isn't this company part owned by Willie Nelson?  We have to travel about 30 minutes to get to the closest one, but it will be a nice day trip for my wife and I.  It looks like a cool place.

Willie is a partner in the Chain! Willie Nelson is the sole owner of the Texas Roadhouse in South Austin, Texas.

It is a cool place with country music playing and the vibe is definitely laid back. It is a little noisier than most places, so it you are trying to romance the little woman there, this isn't your place. 

But, some days, it is just right.  :)

The food is good and the service is good here, but, I know how that is. Good here, not there... So, I will say that whichever one I have been to, I have had pretty good service. Sounds like a plan. I look forward to see if you like it.

Not great photos still don't hide a delicious burger! 

In our neck of the woods we've had the second flooding this month, after sparse rain since 2014. Our valley is pretty much dry river bed. So you can image. Roads, bridges and fencing washed away. Many are stranded. It hit so suddenly that our horses rushed up the mountainside. Safe. But. On the other side of the river. We just returned from getting them home now that the river level is down enough to ride them through. So, pretty much life as usual 😎

Oh one is located just about a mile from my house. I adore there buns, oh they melt in your mouth. The floor plan is very similar to ours. Always got to have a few peanuts on the house before starting anything. They have them there?

Hey, Tootsie! Oh, I do know why! I would have found you, and it is rare that I get to more than comments on Friday. It is my busy day and then I come home to do the comments and usually don't get started on the posts until Saturday. Terrible, right? 

Texas Roadhouse! I do love their burgers and their fries, but, I fall down on that bread and butter they serve. Yummy, delicious. I experimented enough to be able to almost, almost get the taste of butter to go with my homemade rolls. You will have to try it.  :)

We have one of those here.  Good food?? You bet!... however, if invited, I politely decline.  I don't know if they are designed to be that way, but that is the LOUDEST restaurant I have ever been to, so loud, I can't enjoy my meal. Not only that, you can't hear what anyone at the table is saying unless they are right beside you or across from you and then you have to lean in!

It is so noisy, that if my Mom is trying to tell a story about someone that went there and can't instantly think of the name she says "you know, that noisy place"  LOL !

I think I would have paid someone else that was already there to mow before driving that much in one day. I know... I'm getting SO old !

It can be noisy, but, it actually wasn't that night. I am not sure why, especially as they had 5 - yes 5! birthdays that night. It has actually been voted the noisiest/loudest restaurant. I swear to God. It is always busy, there are always lines no matter where in the country I am. So, I guess some people don't mind, but, I clearly understand what you are talking about. 

I usually get a booth, when we go, but, that shouldn't make much difference. I agree, anyplace that is that annoying, I wouldn't go either! Oh, for the love of God, your mom is funny!🤣

Getting someone to mow three acres? Not bloody likely. I leave when I get up and I am there before 9, so it really isn't too bad. I don't mind it. I get to say hello to the neighbors and look at the peach trees blooming and the rest of the trees... it is quite uplifting to go. The grass is slow growing, so there is no emergency to get there, but, I enjoy it when I do.

I didn't know they were ALL noisy, so their interior must be designed that way, with the tall ceilings and whatnot. We are beside a college town and this one was crowded as well.  I guess I thought it was just here. The couple of times I was there, we had a booth too.  Last time there were 6 of us and the booth was very roomy and accommodated us well, however, I had no idea what the conversation was if it was not with the person beside or across.  I felt like I missed a lot of the visit and at this time, I have no issue with my hearing...LOL  .... but what is the point of going for a meal and a visit with the fam, if you can't visit ? !

Yeah.... Mom's funny.

If I have to drive 4 hours to mow, I'm going to want to stay the whole weekend and enjoy the shore. I'm glad you enjoyed it though.  That is all that counts.

It really looks like a great atmosphere in the Texas Roadhouse! And yes,  can see why you split your order with someone else. Those are huge portions. As you say, it might be on the expensive side (from a South African perspective for sure), but it looks like you are getting value for your money!

Yes! Their portions are just too big. Rather than taking some home, I would rather split it and have it cost half. I think they are expensive and that is from my perspective. Some people say it is reasonable and I know these people don't eat at home much. 

Do you know how much food I can buy for those prices if I go to the grocery store?

I did have a busy day, but, being taken out make everything all right.  :)

I want to know who invented bacon.  It has a busy vibe, but, is wildly popular. They make generous, tasty Margaritas, it adds a nice touch to a hearty meal like that. 

It is no-nonsense good food and reminds me of some of the BBQ places they had in San Antonio. Nothing fancy, but, friendly, and the food is good. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your words and dropping your link!

Woaah it's a long travel and if I was there I might vomit while traveling. 

Did you do the mowing by yourself plus the weeding? It's a lot of work. 

About that Texas road house, I am imagining having some night relaxation from the kitchen. I would also love to eat their burger with lettuce.

It is a trip, but, I go there at least every other week, so I am used to it. I did the mowing by myself, I have a riding lawnmower, so it isn't too bad.  :) Many times the kids are with me and we stay the weekend, on a quick up and back, I go alone.

The weeding seems to be under control, so it isn't too bad. Most of what grows are in big plots, so there aren't weeds. It is nice to not have to cook now and then.

Ah okay you have a riding lawnmower. I only thought those manual machine to mower and it is so hard for women I think because I usually saw men doing it and they said it really need some strength to keep it in control.

Fair enough.The perils of posting food. LOL The picture I took was terrible, but, it was the only one I had.  Food has gotten out of hand, to be honest with you. We split one of the burgers as they make them too big and have too many fries, so then it makes it not so bad. $5.50 each and the portion was still bigger than I could eat. 

Of course, the Margarita was delicious@

It looked interesting 🙃 roadkill not the price! 

Everywhere one looks prices are constantly going up...

I prefer to make my own since I wash everything in salt water before preparing. Vegetables,salads etc., then the meat for at least 10 minutes all must soak. Rinse again under clean water before using. Herbs from the garden simple rinse. Never know how, where or what hands touched or conditions grown in, especially here.

How tasty was all the food in that restaurant, it looks like a very good place to go for dinner, besides you see some wonderful pictures, but something that I really liked was the idea of MarketFriday, I am a very curious person and I really wanted to see how are the stores in different parts of the world, I would like to join, but I do not have a good camera and I have no time to go out, so I just enjoy being a spectator of these posts.

Cinnamon Honey Butter Bread would be part of my order for sure! Your burger and whatever your drink was, looks divine. Good rewards for a looong day for you!
We have a Barnyard Theatre and they used to have a thick layer of wood shavings on the floor, surprisingly felt quite stable to walk on. They however did away with it, likely someone fell, we never heard, but it really added to the atmosphere!

I agree about the atmosphere with your woodchips and our peanuts. The lawsuits were filed and it makes good business sense to discontinue it. I personally felt like it was stable, but, I don't have a problem with balance, and perhaps they did. 

Anyway, it took a little bit away. 🙃

The Cinnamon Honey Butter and the freshly made/baked bread are to die for- any day of the week. The picture of the burger didn't come out well at all, but, I only took one. It was so much better looking than I made it look! LOL The drink was a Margarita. It was delicious!

A postcard hunt! I look for them too, especially the antique ones! They are so much fun and I have postcard frames that I bought to display them. I change them all the time.

They are expensive, but, the portions are so big, we split the meal. What you saw on the plate (with a terrible picture of it!) was my portion of dinner. I had the ribs last time. OMG! Delicious!!!

I never eat out unless traveling. I think eating out is overpriced, Perhaps I am just cheap! LOL

I knew the ribs are delicious 😄. Eating out is always expensive same here, we are also cheap always looking for the lowest priced option if possible 😂. We are all doing ok here thank you for asking and somehow used to the weather and surroundings now. Spring time yet still so cold and raining 😂. You deserve that two months travel and adventure.

Thank you @old-man-chu58! It was a long day, but, I don't normally do that in one day, so it is not bad now and then. My family is so good to me and I adore them as well as appreciate their gestures.

It is always the small things in life for me. They bring so much unexpected joy.

I say it has gotten more expensive for the benefit of the #MarketFriday challenge. The prices have gone up, making it unaffordable for many. A good option would be to split the meal as they are always so large. Suddenly, the price becomes more affordable.

Hehe! I get up early and leave by 5 am and get there in time for coffee with my neighbor.  :) I have a riding lawnmower, so it is not too bad. I am used to going back and forth. It is a nice ride. Oh, the bread! It is delicious! nd the butter is divine!

Haha! the peanut shells are weird the first time I saw it, but years later, I laugh when I see them.

Thank you! I love to travel, even if it is only virtually some days. It is truly interesting to see how different our lives are and yet, how much the same they are also. 

The prices vary from place to place. I think they are overpriced, but I always split them as the portions are too big. So it actually costs $5.50 - still a little high. Prices are high everywhere, aren't they?

We love to eat at our Texas Roadhouse just about 15 min. from our house. It is always busy, so we get on their waitlist before we leave the house. It's our go to place to eat out steak - love their rolls and that cinnamon butter.:)
