At Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona, VMware Inc. presented its updated portfolio of solutions aimed at the providers of communication services. Their purpose is to ensure the effective transformation of companies to 5G.

Thanks to VMware, customers will be able to create entirely new revenue streams, lower prices, and improve customer satisfaction and relationships.

Communication service providers face challenges such as high consumer expectations, similar voice and mobile services portfolios, ARPU, rising infrastructure costs and, not least, increasing competition.

The VMware partnership can provide customers with a speedy transformation and upgrading of their networks, thanks to Network Functional Virtualization (NFV), which aims to effectively support the virtualization of existing services such as Voice over LTE (VoLTE), Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) evolved packet core (EPC).

Suppliers can also prepare for new opportunities for new services such as software-based broadband (SD-WAN), cloud-based migration, workplace management and the Internet of Things (IoT).

"Companies offering communications services should be able to offer distinctive services quickly and on demand to serve both today and the entry of the 5G model. This requires switching to cloud-based and virtualized infrastructure, "said Shekar Ayar, executive vice president and manager of the Telco Group in VMware.

"VMware provides innovative and proven software platforms, and thanks to its 20 years of expertise in virtualization and cloud solutions, VMware brings leading vendors and telecom companies to lead in the next-generation cloud distribution. This transition will allow suppliers to provide gross growth, improve performance and maintain and develop both consumer and business relationships, "he added.

At the World Mobile Congress, VMware Inc. presented the next steps of its IoT strategy, which are focused on providing the most advanced computing solutions for specific areas such as smart video surveillance and asset management.

These new solutions will use HCI, VMware vSphere and VMware Pulse IoT Center VMware vSAN software and will be developed in collaboration with industry leaders, followed by Axis Communications and Wipro Limited.

VMware meets specific requirements and environments on network devices and addresses them through solutions tailored to the needs of individual types of customers:

Industrial-remote IoT scenarios such as oil well optimization, utility networks and smart city scenarios where the systems are positioned in wear-resistant, heterogeneous, external and very often remote locations with inconsistent network and electricity;
Factories and factories supporting closed networks, wear-resistant indoor environments;
Chain stores and stores to support unique space and power requirements as well as coordination between many sites.
IoT introduces innovation in today's model of centralized cloud models. A new class of priced peripheral infrastructure is needed to process data from millions or even billions of IoT endpoints separated from the main data center or public cloud.

This new infrastructure must be easy to use as it will be managed by people who do not necessarily have to be IT specialists; costly, since the volume of final installations will be very large and scalable to allow final installations to expand over time.

"By 2022. as a result of digital business projects, 75% of data generated by business organizations will be created and processed outside centralized data centers or clouds, which will mark a significant increase of the current 10%, "according to Gartner. (1) Local analyzes offer shorter response times, reduced logistics costs while complying with data protection requirements.

VMware and Axis Communications are partnering with the IoT solution for the video surveillance industry. The solution will use Axis Communications unique capabilities in the field of video surveillance as IP cameras and 4G / LTE routers that can be deployed to protect property, stores and employees. With the VMware Pulse IoT Center, customers will be able to manage, monitor and secure their cameras and routers from Axis Communications.
