Dumb: Anyone suggesting that Republicans are defunding the police
Lies from politicians are nothing new but it seems as though we have a great deal more of them in recent times. They are also getting easier to identify as it appears that they don't really even care if what they are saying is completely crazy or not.

I don't really expect much honesty from any news publication right now and this particular topic is getting a lot of attention from right-leaning publications and stations and almost no attention from left-leaning publications and stations. Surprise, surprise, right? The left don't cover this story because they know it is a flat-out lie that is easily disproved just by digging a little bit. I can find only a couple of articles from the left defending this absurd statement that Republicans are behind the defunding of police and soaring crime and their argument is based on one thing... and it is a paper thin case they have for this nonsense.

It is called the American Rescue Plan (they love their silly names for things in Congress) and according to Democrats this plan had $350 billion dedicated to police forces across the nation. Every single Republican in the House and Senate voted against it so therefore the Republicans defunded the police right? Ok, if you believe that then you are either so partisan that you are blinded by your allegiance to your party, you never bothered to look into what the "American Rescue Plan" actually is, or you are an idiot. Perhaps a mix of all 3.

"The American Rescue Plan" as the Democrats are presenting it now, was meant to provide extra money to police forces across the nation but that is not what it was intended for at all. By Biden's own words the $350 billion was actually for social workers and community intervention programs; it wasn't for police. However, now they are claiming that it was for police all along. The part about this being for police is something that they are simply making up because as it turns out, soaring crime rates in major cities across the nation isn't very popular (imagine that?) and the Democrats are doing everything they can to try to blame this on the other guys. The fact that this was part of a $1.9 TRILLION plan and not it's own entity isn't referenced by leftists either.

Plus the fact that the plan passed anyway because Dems have control of both the House and the Senate right now normally isn't mentioned either.

Look, I'm not trying to say that Republicans are saints: They aren't. Most of them are just as full of doo-doo as their Democrat counterparts, but in this particular situation anyone who attempts to suggest that it is Republicans who were calling for the defunding of the police is flat-out lying and preaching to the choir.

You also need to look at the fact that police departments and their funding is almost entirely determined at a state and local level and the federal government doesn't really have anything to do with it aside from passing out money.

[Here is a partial list of actual defunding of police that has happened in the past 1.5 years](https://www.nrcc.org/2021/06/29/republicans-want-to-defund-the-police/) take note that **every single one of these instances** are in Democrat-lead cities.

The only publications that are even coming to the defense of these ludicrous accusations of Republicans being responsible for increasing crime rates are the usual suspects like [*The Daily Beast*](https://www.thedailybeast.com/chris-wallace-corners-gop-congressman-jim-banks-arent-you-the-ones-defunding-the-police) which are so far left that they can't really be trusted to be telling the truth about anything and have almost 100% op-ed pieces with very little actual sources. In the above linked article even they don't try to add any credibility to the claim that Republicans are responsible, because they know that they are not.

https://www.speaker.gov/sites/speaker.house.gov/files/wysiwyg_uploaded/wallace.png
[src](https://www.speaker.gov/sites/speaker.house.gov/files/wysiwyg_uploaded/wallace.png)

They love to refer to this one interview involving Chris Wallace, who may as well be directly employed by the Democrat party as far as his affiliation is concerned and his employment only continues so that Fox can claim to not be a partisan network (which they clearly are.) Chris Wallace didn't so much have an interview with Republican Congressman Banks from Illinois as he did talk at him and then interrupt him anytime he had a rebuttal. Wallace also had an interview immediately before this one with someone that works directly for Biden and his tone and demeanor was very different.

The Republicans did not defund the police. The increase in crime across the United States is happening almost exclusively in Democrat-run cities who they, themselves elected to cut back on their own funding for police forces. They did NOT do this because they had no money, they did it because they thought it was the right thing to do and now they are paying the price for it. Now that their plan didn't work and is extremely unpopular, they are trying to point the finger at people that had nothing to do with it.

Politics as usual I suppose and I don't think there is really anyone out there that is buying it, hence the reluctance on the part of left-leaning news outlets to even touch this one... because they know that it is a pack of lies.

Well if defunding the police had some merit behind it like scaling back the war on drugs I would be all for it, but this is just a knee-jerk reaction to various things and those places are paying the price. The fact that someone would try to blame it on "the other guys" doesn't surprise me at all. Par for the course in politics. Hopefully people are wise enough to know it is all a bunch of bullcrap.

It's hard to tell because I wouldn't stick around someone for very long that let their opinions about things be dictated by a particular news organization. I remember at a family dinner years ago that an uncle of mine was totally brainwashed by a very conservative news outlet and even though I tend to lean conservative myself, I dodged the conversations. He wasn't thinking his own thoughts, he was parroting something that he heard on Fox. Unfortunately, I think a lot of people operate in exactly this manner.
