The details of the latest "Florida Man" story are not very concise because nothing of note actually happened other than the usual crazy Florida stuff.  I don't know what it is about that state but there is something in the water because while there are crimes in every State, Florida seems to get a lot of the particularly crazy ones.

I know it is not nice to judge people on their appearances, I'm certainly no Adonis, but when you look at this guy's picture do the words "mentally stable" come to mind?  It doesn't for me and apparently he isn't all there based on his recent arrest in Palm Beach County.   I've been to Palm Beach, it is absolutely lovely.  It's also incredibly expensive and perhaps that drags people towards mental instability.   No matter what is the case with 53 year old Homer Stacy (pictured above), the day was very "Florida Man" in his situation.

He was spotted by authorities walking a wheelchair down the road and looking angry.  This of course is not a crime but when officers looked closer they noticed that there was no passenger on the wheelchair but instead there was a wide variety of weapons including a machete and a baseball bat.   Think about where this situation is heading ok?  You have a body transport vehicle with weapons sitting on it?  I think this is deserving of further inquiry.   

When officers confronted Homer, he was at first compliant but then started to become enraged and non cooperative  and stated that the weapons were simple "for protection."  Fair enough, but then Stacy revealed that he was on his way to confront his son over a hedgehog.   The officers had to ask again because I too would have thought that I misheard what the guy said.  A confrontation over a hedgehog?  Really?  You need weapons for this?

When eventually faced with his son, Homer became enraged even further and even ripped his shirt off Hulk Hogan style and started shouting that he was going to kill his son.   This is obviously not a great idea in front of police officers and only made even more trouble for Homer, who is now charged with simple assault and aggravated assault.   

On a more sad side of things it turns out that the son in this situation, who was not named presumably because his is a minor, has been going through years of abuse at the hands of his father, who the son claims is a heavy drinker.  The son said that his father had earlier instructed him to "go and hurt a woman" and when the son refused the father started to stab a door with a knife, at which point the son fled the scene to go and see his mother.   The son later returned to retrieve his stuff, maybe to move in with his mother, and the father confronted him with a baseball bat.

Although the details are sketchy, again presumably because a minor is involved, it appears as though this was a case of substance abuse and just a horrible home life... one that hopefully can be rectified but it's still Florida, so I wouldn't count on that happening.  

I have no idea where the hedgehog actually comes into the story:  Perhaps the son took the hedgehog from their shared home and this is what set Homer off on his wheelchair machete rampage.   

Just another day in Florida.   It would be a lot funnier if it wasn't for the tragic involvement of apparent child-abuse.

I once again encourage you to look up what your "Florida Man" story is by typing your birthday (not the year) into a websearch followed by "Florida Man" and see what sort of crazy crime happened on your special day.   I guarantee it will be something unusual.
