Benita, an orphan, sat at the verandah of a small hut with her fist on her cheek. The only inheritance her parents had left behind was the hut and a small portion of land. Even though they were poor, they still ate three times a day when her parents were still alive, but that has changed ,  she seldom eats two square meals now. Memories of her childhood flashed through her mind. She had always wanted to be a dancer but that seemed impossible now especially when she had to leave school which was situated in the city to settle in the village. Her countenance changed as she reminisced on the good old days. 

"Benita" a young man called, tapping her on the shoulder "I hope everything is okay?" He asked. 

She sighed "everything is not fine" she said then adjusted the empty seat next to her gesturing him to sit.



"What's it?" He asked, feeling concerned

"Life has not been easy since the death of my parents and I know settling in the village will do me no good"

He watched her with pity, he understood how uneasy it was for her especially as a female child. He shook his head and held her hands "I wish I could help" he said. 

She decided to stay in the village to cultivate the small portion of land that was now her inheritance and resolved to make the best of her life no matter where she settled.

Four months later,  she cultivated  her crops and put them out for sale. Gradually, she started to make savings, *If she wasn't going to pursue her dream of becoming a dancer for herself, Then it will be for her late parents who had always wanted her to achieve that dream* she thought. 

She bought out her iron box in which she kept saving money from the profits she made from her sell and realized she had made #30,000.

"Gabriel, I'm leaving for the city tomorrow. I don't know what will become of me whether I'll make it or not but I want to take the chance. If you never see me again, just know I gave up in the process of my pursuit. It's better I fail while trying than fail to try" Benita said, she knew she was going to miss home, especially Gabriel who had always been there for her.


Early the next morning, she packed her belongings and walked some metres from the hut. She looked back and waved Gabriel goodbye, "please watch over the little belongings I left here for me until I return" she said.

"Where exactly are you going?"

"I don't know yet" she said as she board a car going to the city
