Perhaps you have heard about [Dpoll?](https://dpoll.xyz)  Our family of Steem-powered applications continues to grow, adding value to us as users and to the ecosystem as a whole.  The minimum viable product of this tool was made during the @utopian-io hackathon, itself a product of one of the most powerful and successful D.Apps in the steem ecosystem.

As a sociologist, this tool is incredibly interesting to me!  I immediately went to have a look around, and noticed my friend @vimukthi had a meta-poll, asking about how people thought about the app itself.  He also wrote [a supportive article](https://steemit.com/dpoll/@vimukthi/welcome-and-support-the-latest-addition-to-steem-based-projects-dpoll) welcoming them into the ecosystem.  I decided, as I sometimes do, to have a contest with an interesting poll, something no one has done yet!  I would encourage people to expand on their answer in the comments, and reward the best answers with SBI shares!

Perhaps it is in my nature to test the limits of things.  That's what minimum viability and alpha stage products are all about right?  So as I was filling up my 'day of the year' poll, I quickly came to realize that there is a maximum of 10 options.

I believe that this cap is **arbitrary**.  My principle suggestion, although there are more further down, is that this cap be removed completely, and not just raised to another arbitrary limit.

When I went to github to see the structure of the code, I noticed that @embreyler, the developer, had already increased the maximum just one day ago, to 10 from 5.

EDIT:  With the encouragement and help of @torrey.blog, I created a [pull request](https://github.com/emre/dpoll.xyz/pull/12) that eliminates any maximum on number of options for a poll.  Utopian reviewers, I understand that this is a suggestion category and not a development category, but please also realize that a change this small (eliminating 7 lines of code) doesn't necessarily count as a development.

Now, as a sociologist very interested in the ability to have account based surveys, in which I could even reward people for participating in, I would like to say a few words about what makes a polling tool useful.

I recognize that short polls have **some** value, and that they are very popular for catching sentiment amongst a large group of people.  But larger, more in-depth and more advanced polling is a powerful and important way of collecting data, and there is no reason that dpoll cannot become a tool to fill this niche as well!

Now several of the suggestions that already exist do begin to address this.  Multiple questions per poll becomes a survey, and a survey is a much more powerful tool than individual questions because it begins to create *linked data*.  In the dpoll case, on steem, all data collected by dpoll for every question ever answered will be tied to a users account.    This could be the beginning of a wonderful relationship between dpoll and the analysis contributors over at utopian!

A description field for the post as well as the option for voters to add additional thoughts to their comments only reinforces the fact that we want to collect as much data as possible.

Besides suggesting to remove the cap on number of entries, I would encourage the developer to think about multiple part questions.  Imagine a question like, 'What is your birthday?'.  In this case, we have either 366 options, or 12 options for month and 31 options for day.  Normal survey applications allow a drop down menu options on the user interface, the information can easily be printed in a steem comment.  

Considering other types of data entry (multiple choice, geographic/location data, text box, number input, etc.) will allow us more tools to craft our surveys.

I love dpoll!  I recognize that it is not called dsurvey, but I believe that this has a lot of potential for data and analysis, and I believe that as the community grows ever larger, this will be a powerful tool used by individuals and especially **other Dapps** to get information tied to a user account (and thus user data like usage).
