It doesn't always work out
I have a few dozen things on my mind.  Lots of stuff going on, and 17 Californians are coming to our farm tomorrow.  Let's see how it goes 😬 Pictures coming on Friday probably.

But there is something that I want to get off my chest, by saying it out loud on my blog maybe I can get it out off my head.  We are not working in a vaccuum, there are other people out there, and they are doing things.

## HUG vs HUGS

You may have seen that @hannes-stoffel has [created the HUG token](https://hive.blog/hive-139531/@hannes-stoffel/introducing-hugbot).  Its one of those !HUG things that are free to give away, which are fun but silly and definitely not an investment.  Also at least 7 of this exist already (nearly) exactly the same.

What you may have not known is that on behalf of @snook (my mother), I created the HUGS token many months ago.  For several months we have been discussing the operation, what could make the token unique, what code we could use - and when I say we - it was at least 7 people, not including my mother.

So maybe I should start by saying that she is quite upset by this perceived usurpation.

I listened to several of my mother's advisors, and put together a proposal that I thought would be unique and moderately easy to set up with the code we had.  There were some other ideas, discussion continued.  

We reviewed 3 different basic models, plus a number of possible modifications.  In that time, !HUG was born.

You might read this, I am not sure if its as obvious to you as it is to me that a. this is not a financial token (you will lose money) and b. the price will forever go down.  That doesn't mean HUG doesn't have aesthetic value, I'm not an expert on that, but I probably would smile if someone gave me a !HUG.  Its a good brand.

With 4 year old tokenomics and a price trajectory directly to zero.

There is a reason !PIMP has huge tiers and assets backing.  Giving away free tokens is not a financial roadmap (unless you do other stuff).

Hannes created the token, without realising the HUGS token excited, when he checked tribaldex to see if his token (HUG) was listed, he found hugs and messaged to ensure he wasn't stepping on anyone's toe. After confirmation, he went forward with the Hug bot. I belive he was testing 'multiple triggers' for the bot eg !HUG !hug !hugs and !HUGS. Hes since removed the triggers on the plural (s) to avoid any further confusion in that regard.

Considering I was in on the board to help guide the @snook version, I was disappointed to see this one pop up for a couple reasons. One, the lack of research in seeing there already was a hugs token and instead asking to be part of the team - made his own version. Secondly, if there is no monetary incentive at play with said token (because there never was), my thoughtful suggestion is just ask (and I am asking) @hannes-stoffel and @slothlydoesit to consider handing the keys and rights over to the original creator - @snook. I remember oral discussions from before Christmas of last year as her idea started to shape. I also feel responsible for her losing the idea as I was prompting a few times on chain with the command for HUGS, before it came out. But, I knew it was coming and was teasing people. I just didn't think someone would come along and snipe the idea. Sad and probably more mad about it than Alex and my sis. Let's see what happens moving forward.

Again: It was **never** my intention to snipe anyone's project! I asked! And yes, if @snook had not wanted it then she should have said so. I would have understood and stopped. And I said as much! 

But now we have this mess on our hands with lots of people feeling hurt. How is that better than telling me "no, we want to proceed with our project" in private discord? How is then not wanting to be the bearer of bad news better than this emotional roller coaster?

I wanted to develop my own coding skills while also bring something good and supportive to others on hive.

I dont think there was any intention to 'snipe' any idea. As mentioned Hannes hadn't realised there was another 'hugs' token before making the token and bot, when he did realise he asked the creator of Hugs, snooks if it was ok to continue. The idea of a hug is pretty universal as a nice gesture, the idea was actually spun off luv bot which operates on the similar code. It was a chance for Hannes to further his coding without utilising a currently circulating token. 

As I mentioned I'm sure there's a possibility of working together, or possibly even passing ownership. This is up to Hannes, the token actually has no affiliation with us, other than Hannes helping fix our sloth bot, and trying to further his development skills to further enhance the functionality. We think he's a great asset to development on Hive as a whole. Drop me (or hannes directly) a message on discord and we can further discuss the situation as required.

I can not share this sentiment. After I explained my intentions to @snook, including the fact that I will not go ahead with the bot if she objects and that I will be fine with however **she** decides, she told me that I can go ahead and do it. If she was upset, she did not let me know it or I would not have gone ahead. I thanked her and went on.

This project is not intended as a financial token. Quite the contrary. I will never sell any of the tokens nor buy them back. I do not seek any financial gain. I am actually losing money on this (token creation fee and energy consumption for running the bot code).

This is a hobby project. For me to extend my knowledge in coding and bring new features into the bot code. 

To give my "test case" some meaning I wanted it to be that: a pure gesture token. Nothing financially behind it and never claimed as much.

This is a pure gesture token. And a hug is something personal. For that reason one of the first additions to the code is the restriction to how many (other) tipping commands are allowed (currently two additionally) in the same comment as the hug. That code went live today but I have not published the announcement yet.

No one person has the right to trademark the word **hug**. Me least of all. You told me about the bot, hive account, and token and how they were already made. How you saw hugs on a comment and start using that with your bot to test things.

You also asked if it was going **live** anytime soon. I knew I wasn't.

Now let's put the hug on the other foot....if you had just spent 4 months working on something but still was not close to a product you felt you wanted your name on and someone came along and told you the same thing as you told me...... would you be upset?

I think it's human to have that emotion when faced with the decision to do the right thing or say no and be an ass. But I am human and yes I was upset.

In that first screenshot, the type in capitals is taken out of context.....that I will say...what you are seeing and how upset it looks like I am was not directed to you. So let's clear that up.

I will also say I had no idea this post was going to be written and in the end it got written because I have been too ill to be able to talk on voice with my son and explain things...... and being the wonderful son that he is he, in turn, is upset that his **fun** gift he gave his mom has turned into this.


So there are many levels of things going on here. Do I think you should have looked closer into names before making yours? yes. because I am sure, you would have run into the 8 accounts I made with hugs in them if you had looked. 

But what is done is done.

You did the work and I could not take that away from you so I didn't.

but it did hurt my heart but I am old and will get over it. You are making a bot to share for free. Something many can use and is good for all of Hive.

It's too bad but I do think there is enough room for both tokens. I don't really have anything to say about the price because it's likely to go down as well. Most of them don't really have much use but I will try to leave them in my wallet. It doesn't have that much value and some of them branch out like LOL and give out dividends.

I think your post is out of place.
Hannes never had a bad intention. I was there during the process of this HUG token coming to life. I didn´t know about the HUGS token to be honest. And of course I get that point that it´s sad if someone creates something similar. But he didn´t steal in any way, he even asked when he found out. If you worked so long on tokenomics for HUGS then why did your mother say: "It´s ok, go ahead?" This all could have been discussed in DMs, instead of making a post to discredit Hannes. What is your intention behind that?

And talking about

I guess you missed the purpose of this token?
A. How can someone lose money if it doesn´t cost you anything to receive these tokens?
B. This token has always been intended to be a GESTURE token. Not an investment token. And I LOVE the idea! I truly think we need more of that on Hive!! The world is not only about money, but about SUPPORTING each other, be there for each other! And this is what he intended to do and it´s just great! I hope more of this will come up. He didn´t start the token for people to gain money, and he didn´t start the token to gain any money himself.

Your sentence shows me, that you might not have understood the purpose right.

What is the reason of making this a public thing and stating things wrong even?

Oh, first time hearing of HUGS. Sometimes taking things Sloth and steady doesn't win the race! 

Hannes is trying to learn how to code more on Hive, So he can be a positive influence on the Hive ecosystem. He set up the HUG token for purely that reason. People shouldn't 'lose money' on it, as long as they're aware as to what it is, and send the 'free hugs' to people. Hannes isn't selling the token himself, so it's down to what the community does with it. 

He's already made several steps forward on the available open-source codes for 'other hive tipbots', and using !HUG as a method of learning even more, without 'playing with economics' of 'real' tokens (EG Slothbuzz!) 

PS did you know we also have !SLOTH command, of course, as you mention, if this was the 'only' usecase, it would be sending the token to 0. Luckily, we have plenty buzz to continue keeping the token growing!

Oh, Honey, there is nothing you should be upset about. It was my token and I should have made things happen sooner and then this would not have been a problem.
He did let me know he had made the token and said he would not go forward with it if I said not to but he had already made the bot and account and token.

We were close but not close enough to start minting ours..so I told him to go ahead and keep going.

was I upset, yes. Will I get over it? yes. Because life goes on and what is most important to your life should never be this hard to do..... it should flow...... and we were not flowing....

so now we take a break and breath and see what went wrong and learn from what happened.
