Discipline:- Self-control

>Hebrews 12:8 (NET) says :“But if you do not experience discipline, something all sons have shared in, then you are illegitimate and are not sons".


>>Discipline is a system of rule of conduct or activity or experience that provides mental or physical training.

*Some synonyms of discipline are:* **Restraint, Self-Mastery, Self-control, Drill.**

**SCRIPTURAL EXAMPLE OF INDISCIPLINED PEOPLE:-**

- *REUBEN* 

>Genesis 49:3-4 “Reuben, you’re my firstborn, my strength, and the first fruit of my vitality. You excel in rank and excel in power. But you’re as indisciplined as a roaring river, so eventually you won’t succeed, because you got in your father’s bed, defiled it, and then approached my couch.”

- *SAMSON*

Who had much strength and was mightily used by God, ended up losing both eyes and his life because he could not keep his secret from Delilah even though he knew she worked for his enemies and they wanted him dead. Samson was so indisciplined that he refused to realize that the woman he was in love with didn't love him but her country. Delilah can be complimented for her persistence in asking Samson what his secret was, which she got at the end.
**I would dare say that she was very disciplined as she was committed to her assignment and brought forth the desired results.**

- *ESAU*

Compromising with the Word concerning the right of the first born.

- *DAVID*

Not looking away/forgetting he saw a naked woman. Postponing self gratification for a long term gain.

**Discipline grows your commitment to maximize your gift or calling.** 
>*Paul said be instant in season and out of season.* 

**That is commitment as a product of discipline.**

**DISCIPLINED PEOPLE**

>2Thes 3:7 NET “For you know yourselves how you must imitate us, because we did not behave without discipline among you...”

- *PAUL* 

He disciplined himself by subduing his body lest he be disqualified from the race he was called to run. 
>1 Cor 9:27 “But I roughly treat my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified.”

- *PARABLE OF THE SOWER*

In the parable of the sower, some were more productive than others because through discipline and commitment to the Word, they allowed the Word to have root or free cause and produced much fruit. *(Matt 13:3-9)*

>Proverbs 12:24 “The diligent **(disciplined)** shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute”

*In order to be excellent, one must be diligent and committed to his course.*

Jesus rose up early in the morning before dawn to pray and prepare for the day. The results that followed were miracles, signs and wonders etc.
For anyone to be productive and excel, he must be able to fairly apply discipline and commitment to produce Excellence.

- **Your Personal Study Of The Word**

*Seeking the Lord:* King Jehoshaphat disciplined himself to seek the Lord, and victory followed.

The word of God is our light and the necessary ingredient for our excellence in service delivery.

*Without the discipline to go after the word, our excellence will vanish like a dressing design.*

>2Chronicles 19:3(ISV)
“Nevertheless, a few good things have been found in you, in that you have removed the Asheroth from the land and you have disciplined yourself to seek God.”

You must personally take out time to study and meditate on God's word if you're to be excellent.  *There are many people with gifts, that in the eyes of many is better than yours,* **what will make the difference is your depth in the Word becks grace increases through the knowledge of God.**

>The Jews pray 3 times a day.

>The Muslim 5 time a day

And you, Do you follow various prayer times? Has it entered into your discipline?

Do you have specific time assign for prayer just for your gift and talent? 

Do you pray for your fellow workers in your studio, office, school etc.

You must be disciplined in the way you speak to others, above or under you in the Church or work place. Learn to speak well of others. 
>James 3:2 "Maturity is determined by your tongues." You have to watch over your words. It requires discipline.

- **Discipline Yourself From Procrastination**

Deutronomy 21:18 (NET) likens indiscipline to wickedness.
>“If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them” (Prov.12:1 NET) (Prov.13:18 NET)
