Finding Common Ground
I've actually been wanting to write this post for months now. It's just been sitting on the backburner in an unnamed text file where I keep all my ideas for random posts. Only after my last post about potential links between certain conspiracy theories and racism/tribalism does it seem more prescient.

No, I did not use that word correctly.
Thanks for asking.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7VaXlMvAvk&ab_channel=SaturdayNightLive

##### Anti-Tribalism: Finding our similarities
So this Saturday Night Live ("Black Jeopardy") cracks me up for multiple reasons. The most pressing variable here is that it's Tom Hanks, which is truly comical. Not because Tom Hanks is particularly funny, but because there's a hardcore conspiracy revolving around him that paints him as a high ranking Illuminate Deep State pedophile.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nz5iXtZ6o6M&ab_channel=HappyHourPodcast

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5uHfF19aXE&ab_channel=CentralPillow

#### Hm, yeah... so that's weird.
Lots of odd stuff to unpack there that I'm not going to touch with a ten foot pole.

In any case, SNL is known for its liberal politics and othering of Trump supporters (or really anyone on the right). That's Hollywood culture for you. So it really does come as a surprise that they would do a skit like this where similarities between both sides are being somewhat celebrated.

#### We have more in common than we have differences.
Even a banana shares 60% of the exact same genetic code as a human.
Which is... obviously mind blowing.

![us vs them tribalism.jpeg](https://images.hive.blog/DQmbkU5k2ybv9uatThayK7YQSdWQX9VFWxah9Tg9EKz42jK/us%20vs%20them%20tribalism.jpeg)

#### Tribalism is toxic
Tribalism only makes sense in the context of scarcity. The pyramid of resource distribution that we've seen since the dawn of time has extreme diminishing returns. I should probably do an entire post on dumpster diving alone. Do you have any idea how many resources just get thrown in a landfill rather than given to the needy? It's mind-blowing.

This is why it is so deeply disappointing that Bitcoin maximalists went and did the exact thing that they said they would never do: try to centralize money itself. I guess people just can't help themselves. If there's one thing we can count on, it's greed.

![greedbank.jpeg](https://images.hive.blog/DQme2MuyD1Z1cQVF2bNeSvoBp7LQb9u4ejkWrM33U5DGHy1/greed-bank.jpeg)

#### What is the goal of cryptocurrency?
Like any economic system, the goal of crypto is to <code>SCALE</code>. To get bigger; to expand; to inflate; to overrun the old archaic legacy systems. Easier said than done I'm afraid.

#### We all have to make choices.
Even though crypto is about automating out the middle man and eliminating the need for trusted third parties and intermediaries, we still have to pick people that we think we can trust. This is especially true during these early stages of the game. [Don't forget: Bitcoin is a thirteen year old.](https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@edicted/please-welcome-bitcoin-to-puberty) A very trustworthy and mature 13 year old, to be sure, but still a 13 year old, nonetheless. We can not trust a 13 year old to solve all our problems.

It becomes clear that we must hitch our wagons to multiple horses. What apps do we trust? What networks do we trust? What people do we trust? These are all decisions we must make on our own, but I do have some personal guidelines worth sharing:

1. Don't trust entities that are tribalist. There's no reason to compete in a borderless digital realm with infinite possibilities. If a person or network claims they are going "kill XYZ" token, they are either ignorant or just straight up lying, and there's no reason to give them any of your time.
2. Don't trust premines. I feel like this is obvious but still it needs to be said. Centralized stake holdings are never going to end well. We already know this from experience, but it's worth mentioning regardless. This is why something like Ragnarok that's being 100% airdropped to the community is so refreshing.
3. Stop chasing shiny new things. New projects are dumb. Development takes FOREVER (if you haven't noticed). You should only get involved in a new project if you're actively involved in actually using it. Raw speculation has extremely negative diminishing returns the vast majority of the time.
4. Diversity is important. Look at Hive. We've got Nigerians, Venezuelans, Turks, Americans, Koreans, Australians, New Zealanders, yada, yada, yada, etc, etc, etc. Hive is already a surprisingly diverse ecosystem. Can other projects say the same? Would you even know?
5. BOLO for people who have an abundance mindset. Beware of anyone that gravitates toward rent-seeking and leeching value from others. Also watch out for those who celebrate status symbols (Lambo) and live a decadent lifestyle. There's no reason we can't all be huge winners within this new cooperative environment. Crypto is not a zero-sum game. We can all win.

#### Spoiler alert: there is no conspiracy!
If crypto really can scale as large as we are saying it can, no one is going to care that it upended the entire legacy economy. Everyone would be rich beyond their wildest dreams. But if we ever actually want to get to that place, tribalism and division really have no place in the future. We can't scale up if everyone is just running around "competing" with everyone else in their tiny little faction.

#### Conclusion

![chethanks.png](https://images.hive.blog/DQmUomvofccXKC3ANCPro9mE88PvYuHCA3ENPMcoHThAsiW/chet-hanks.png)

You said no conspiracy but that was a juicy(is it gay because it's on his chest?) conspiracy.

Anyway, I was having this same conversation there other day and I said something along the same line about Bitcoin's age.

I like to see Bitcoin as the starting point. If Bitcoin is 13 years, everything else pretty much falls under that age group. THat means that the entire industry is still very young.

Tribalism in this tiny industry is quite funny tbh. We're pretty much one long ass corridor in the crypto space. How can you truly believe your chistoin is the best when the oldest of all shitcoins is 13 years?

The only person that could genuinely think that a 13 year old would solve their problem is a paedo

The tribalism is quite bad right now in the US. It's gotten pretty crazy and even social media has shown the huge divide between both sides. As for ETH killers, I think this is fairly overplayed but I feel like they will also have the same issues as ETH. There are just so many of them that I think they are just copying each other.

I do feel like we have a situation where some people would like to centralize crypto, keep the huge sum for themselves while having the masses keep it pumped up for them while they only extract the value because they're maximalists whatsoever. You ended this well by saying we can all win. Unfortunately not a lot of people feel we should collectively win.

I note that we will not collectively win, but individually, when decentralization has risen to it's naturally primary state. Decentralized mechanisms do not provide collectivized pipelines for oligarchies to parasitize, and this makes decentralization more profitable to the individuals undertaking it. We presently are transitioning in every industry from the temporary centralization that has been necessary to advance technology from the Stone Age to the Space Age, but that transition has been completed now, and decentralization is the cutting edge of technological advance in every field of industry today.

There is an ongoing shakeup, which will be as traumatic as it is important, but the laws of physics cannot be amended, defrauded, or sidestepped, and it is inevitable that decentralization will secure to each producer of the goods and services they themselves provide the full benefits thereof, and overlords and oligarchs will simply not have any collectivized production to parasitize.

>"The pyramid of resource distribution that we've seen since the dawn of time..."

This is incorrect. AFAIK, modern humans have existed in our present form for ~300k years, and only after the advent of collective industry has any kind of resource distribution beyond immediate tribal and familial communities been possible, which we are presently aware began at some discrete time in the past upon the advent of agriculture, which began sometime after the construction of Gobekli Tepe, some 12kya.

Only since agriculture arose as an industrial collectivized economic activity has there been resources able to be distributed by an overlord. Prior to that technological advance everyone themselves secured all the goods and services requisite to their person, family, and community. That pyramid of resource distribution could have begun no earlier than ~10kya, and for the other ~290k years, we have ourselves acquired such resources via our manual decentralized work.

Shortly we will restore to humanity that decentralized means of providing our goods and services as the temporary centralization of industry necessary to advance technology from the Stone Age to the Space Age has been completed, and in every field of industry today decentralization is the cutting edge of technological advance. Centralization is obsolete, and overlords seem to be attempting to cement state of the art in order to preserve the production pipelines availed by collectivization they parasitize for their wealth and power.

As we ourselves produce the goods and services we require to effect the blessings of civilization, no parasitizable pipelines will eventually exist, and society will be restored to it's original egalitarian and meritocratic state in and for which humanity evolved for the vast majority of it's existence. This seems to be a rather rocky road of transition back to our natural societal state, but I am comforted that it has apparently long been foreseen, predicted, and our eventual victory assured. It is impossible to imagine even powerful overlords can overpower the laws of physics themselves, and I do not imagine they will.

Decentralization is freedom. Wealth is independent means. The laws of physics cannot be amended, bullied, or sidestepped in any wise.

Therefore I look forward to that happy day when our comity and felicity is fully in our own power and effected by our own hands, and we can assume possession of the very stars of the heavens, and leave them as an inheritance to our posterity as the legacy of our freedom and sovereignty.

Thanks!

### A fine amendment to this post.
Although humanity has still never known abundance or been able to create a governance system around it.
In many cases the pyramid of distribution was better than the meager scraps decentralization had to offer.
I'm not trying to wash my clothes in the bathtub, ride a bicycle to work, or connect Dixie cups with a string.

Washing woolens in the tub was how my mother taught me, so they don't shrink. While it's a bit of a stretch presently, with a couple 5x8 raised beds we can keep ourselves fed, and even if we're not allowed to garden outside, with a sunny window or a few LED strips, we can grow in vertical gardens with hydroponics, or even add various aquatic creatures to an aquaponics system to supply the plants with nutrients and ourselves with omega 3 fatty acids and meat.

D-cups and rope is a young man's fancy. I'm too old for it anymore. But I'm sure decentralized means of communicating without being dependent on ISPs permission can be arranged. We do need to be able to speak forthrightly to one another, and the rest of the web seems to be more and more censored on the daily.

As additive manufacturing continues to expand the materials it can make products with, and the scales it can make stuff at, I am pretty sure we will be needing access to supermarkets less and less going forward, and every time we make something ourselves, a whole string of taxable events and profit takings are avoided. Over time parasitic overlords become obsolete. With diligence, we can shorten that time, and a quick look at the state of the world seems to strongly encourage shortening that time as much as possible.

The sooner we're rid of oligarchs, the better, IMHO.
