There are times when I see certain things I used to do in the past and chuckle. I laugh because so much time has passed and looking back I realized how much of my values have really changed. 

People whose values probably haven't changed still do these things and those who have been saved from those burdens have embraced minimalism and they can testify that their lives have been much better.

For a lady, a relatable example would be shoes. We tend to buy them and keep buying and buying non-stop. When the next models come or our friends are wearing those, we have this insatiable desire to hunt for more shoes to feel among. In the end, our homes get clogged, and filled up, there's no breathing space, and the air around us starts to feel suffocating.

In the past, once you step into my home, you'll find a lot of things taking up space and I can hoard without restraint. I had more shoes than I could possibly want to wear at a time. Dad always asked why I am buying another of such shoes when I already have one that looked just like that. I loved those wedges, and I couldn't pass by any new one that looks charming and dreamy. So I'll always buy. Wear it to one Sunday service and then look for other ones to wear the next Sunday.

The ones that get repeated meant I love them so much and I did not mind wearing them over and over again. 

Once I decided less is more, I got rid of those things. I decided it was enough. I did not really need all that number of shoes to look good. Having so many of them meant spaces were taken and I couldn't breathe in good air. The dust, the cobwebs, and the tiny insects that accumulated as days went by and I deserted the old ones were enough to tell me I needed a change 

Right now, if you walk into my space, you'll find three shoes, one for daily routine, one for church, and the other for emergencies or outings.

I have had to wake up to less and enjoy the air that's no longer suffocating. And no specks of dust or cobwebs pilling up in the corner as it gets easier to clean up spaces that aren't crowded.
