Esta es una especie de Bromelia oriunda de Brasil, Argentina y Paraguay. Lo curioso de esta planta es que florece solo una vez en toda su vida, es una especie que no se alimenta mediante sus raíces como el común de las demas especies, en las uniones de la hojas y el tallo se acumula agua, e insectos muertos y todo eso sirve de alimento a la planta.
