El horario de almuerzo en un grupo de teatro puede ser tan loco que fácilmente se puede convertir en un máster class de cocina. Solo tiene que alguien recordar que hay una deuda, una receta prometida, en este caso la del pan de plátanos.

Hace ya unos años, me encontraba en casa de unos amigos preparando una función de “Pareja Abierta” que íbamos a regalarle a la comunidad de Cocosolo, en el municipio de Marianao, en La Habana, y de repente llegó a nosotros una maravillosa panetela, con pedacitos de uvas pasas, chocolate. Aquello era un real deleite, y evidentemente ante algo así, se desata el cocinero pastelero goloso que todos llevamos dentro y vienen las preguntas claves: qué es y cómo se hace. Y como es lógico, cuando todo es tan perfecto, algo tiene que salir mal. Es pan de plátanos, me dijo la muchacha que lo había traído, pero lo hace el padre de mi hijo y no le da a nadie la receta.
>A few years ago, I was at the house of some friends preparing an “Open Couple” function that we were going to give to the community of Cocosolo, in the municipality of Marianao, in Havana, and suddenly a wonderful panetela came to us, with bits of raisins, chocolate. That was a real delight, and obviously in the face of something like this, the greedy pastry chef that we all carry inside is unleashed and the key questions arise: what is it and how is it made. And of course, when everything is so perfect, something has to go wrong. It's banana bread, the girl who brought it told me, but my son's father makes it and he doesn't give anyone the recipe.
Fue como un balde de agua fría. Nada cae tan mal como una receta negada, y creo que hasta miré con mala cara a la muchacha. Pero como soy una persona insistente, enseguida me enfoqué en la tarea titánica de buscar la receta por mis propios medios. Revisé varios libros de cocina buscando, comparando las recetas para ver cuál era la mejor, la más económica, porque mi pan me tenía que quedar mejor que el del tacaño ese que no compartía recetas.

Luego de cincuenta y cinco minutos que dura el proceso de horneado, y después de desmoldado, los miembros de mi familia miraban el pan con cierta curiosidad, sin atreverse aún a probarlo, así que yo, de sacrificada, decidí tomar la primera rebanada para que todos vieran que no iba a envenenar a nadie con la preparación culinaria. Ahí estaba de nuevo ese sabor rico entre dulce y tropical. En cuanto todos vieron que el resultado había sido satisfactorio, se sumaron a probar, aun escépticos, pues, actriz al fin, no sabían bien si estaba fingiendo.

A partir de ese momento, el pan de plátanos se ha convertido en un plato obligado en mi casa y en el entorno laboral. En cada grupo de trabajo, cada fiesta a la que asistimos, hasta en nuestra boda, ha estado presente el ya famoso pan. Se ha convertido en parte del ritual del café por la mañana, en el capuccino de la tarde, en parte de las reuniones con los amigos… es todo un clásico.

It has become part of the ritual of coffee in the morning, in the cappuccino in the afternoon, part of meetings with friends... it is a classic.
Aunque a veces varíe un poco la receta, y aunque sé que me la van a seguir pidiendo, la comparto con ustedes para que acompañen sus tardes de café.

En un tazón, echamos ¾ tazas de azúcar (yo la prefiero morena) y media taza de manteca (yo uso aceite vegetal, pues la mantequilla me cae mal) y revuelvo con un batidor manual hasta que se integre bien. Añado a la mezcla un huevo, una taza de leche fluida y la imprescindible pizca de sal. Luego una taza de harina que voy echando poco a poco, alternando con una taza de puré de plátanos (lo puedes aplastar con un tenedor). Y ya casi finalizando, añado una cucharada de polvo de hornear, bicarbonato o levadura química. La he probado añadiendo uvas pasas, chocolate, frutos secos, coco rallado… Sólo debes dejar volar a tu imaginación y añadir tu ingrediente favorito y será siempre un éxito.
>In a bowl, we put ¾ cups of sugar (I prefer it brown) and half a cup of butter (I use vegetable oil, because I don't like butter) and stir with a hand mixer until well integrated. I add to the mixture an egg, a cup of fluid milk and the essential pinch of salt. Then a cup of flour that I add little by little, alternating with a cup of mashed bananas (you can crush it with a fork). And almost finishing, I add a tablespoon of baking powder, bicarbonate or chemical yeast. I have tried it by adding raisins, chocolate, nuts, grated coconut... You just have to let your imagination fly and add your favorite ingredient and it will always be a success.
Así terminé ayer mi hora de almuerzo, explicando detalle a detalle cómo hacer un buen pan de plátanos, porque las recetas se comparten y la dulzura no se niega.
