The biggest difference between Reddit and the HIVE platform

This is Reddit:

I want you to look at the content trending and being on top on both of these platforms. Think about the content that is being viewed, commented and shared.

Maybe you don't see the big difference, but on reddit you can end up on top of the trending page just with a link to an article that you didn't even write.

Not only that they just posted a link to an article wrote by someone else, but they were also rewarded for it with karma and many different badges from other people. On reddit to use badges you have to buy them, they are not free.

So after two posts just being links to other outlets, the third post on trending on reddit is finally a user-created post.

It's different here as we are taught not to share content from others and be rewarded for it. Everything should be write by us and us only. If we share something from other platforms and we don't decline rewards, we should expect downvotes.

I think there should be some of the post's rewards "frozen". Those would be slowly opening as more people would view and comment on the post.

User engagement is important. Right now I feel that many people post only because they know they are auto-upvoted and are using this to get as many rewards as possible even though there are no comments and probably no views on these posts.

Why do we have to lie and hide the amount of views people here are getting? Because then those big post's rewards wouldn't be justified?

But imagine now that from your 100 HP post's payout reward 50 HP would be "frozen". Wouldn't you be now more incentivized to share this content elsewhere - maybe on competitive platform like reddit to get more views and replies to unlock all the rewards?

Let me end it with this -
If just links to other websites can be on top of reddit, why couldn't a link to some good HIVE post be here also? It's possible!

yeah, this is something that we have to continually talk about here on hive. My hope is that we will eventually get beter at distributing rewards. But I think we might have to stop comparing Hive to sites like reddit. They are both social media platforms, but I would argue that they are quite different. Hive is great for content creators, artists, developers and the like and reddit is great to get news, memes, small-talk etc. Stuff like that just doesn't seem to work on hive because we currently value that which appears to take time and effort to create. Posting a single link to a page is not really involved with work, but of course it might still b extremely relevant and important to people. This dilemma of what constitutes value is something we have to continue to discuss here...
