###### This season has been quite favorable weather-wise, but the time is approaching where the nights are falling too low in temperature to keep growing outside. This grow update was filmed/photographed on October 7th, 2021 (video above), and will be the final update before I harvest this little lady. Its really too bad I did not have the space to grow more this season, but I am grateful, as it did free me up to accomplish much more important tasks. See Below for my list of harvest timing tips.

## <center>Outdoor Harvest-Timing Indicators</center>

##### <u>Low Night Temps</u>
###### Once night temperature lows fall below 42 °F, it creates a primed breeding ground for mildew and mold. Since developing cannabis flowers (especially ones close to harvest) are about 75% water, they become much more prone to attracting undesirable spores to them than other foliage. One night at 42 °F may be ok ***once***, but not even a few times. Don't play with certainty. 

##### <u>ANY Sign of Botrytis</u>
###### If you see even a tiny spec of botrytis (aka bud-rot" or mold on your cannabis flowers), it is time to take them down... like RIGHT NOW! Every minute you wait to take down your plant after finding this will cause a further loss of yield. You cannot simply cut out the mold and let it keep growing, you must chop out the mold and take the plants down for drying immediately. It is much better to have a niece yield of something chopped a few days too soon, than a lower yield of something chopped on time, yet riddled with mold. Food for thought. 

##### <u>Bugs & Caterpillars</u>
###### If you have a swarm that is still uncontrolable with all your (likely expensive) efforts, and its getting close to harvest - go ahead and chop early. If you are experiencing a caterpillar invasion at this stage, chop NOW! Those pillars will destroy you BEST buds - as I have demonstrated in past [*Backyard Cannabis Farming* episodes](https://weedcash.network/dtube/@elamental/gr19iat9g19)/seasons. 

##### <u>Trichromes Turning</u>
###### If all environmental factors allow for you to crop your outdoor harvest on time, and you have a good microscope or jeweler's loop, than you can zoom in on the trichomes and time your harvest with surgical precision. When most of the trichs are starting to get milky, or more than 15% of them start changing to a more amberish hew, than the time has come. This is the most ideal method for timing a harvest, ***always*** recommended when growing indoor.

##### <u>Pistils Darkening</u>
###### While it is true that other environmental factors can lead to prematurely darkening pistils, generally speaking, if your pistils have turned mostly orange/red (strain dependent), than in all likelihood, its time to harvest. This usually only happens in more idealistic circumstances, when not being able to track the trichs visually. 

##### <u>Thieves & the Crown</u>
###### The lord of the land can sometimes be more of a worry than one would think, but don't put it past ANYONE to come up with an excuse to screw you over, throwing all your hard work out the window. It could be a property owner, a neighbor, a farm-hand, a "partner", a "friend", a random passer-by, even the cops (you would be surprised) - all with an equal chance to take down your crop before you do. 

###### If you have any worry about this whatsoever close to harvest-time, and you cannot be there to properly guard your plants at night, start taking your plants down early. I have caught several folks trying to jump my fence at night in year's past, and have also been on grows that were "sneakily" robbed. The cops can also use their sway in various ways to squeeze you, even when you are legal.

So great to see you all having nice weather this time of the year. Or at least better then 2 years ago. I remember you all where hit hard with those low temps with so many that had not finished yet.
