Sphere M1200B 2 Channel Racked Preamp Unbox & Sound Test - ELAmental Underground Studio GEAR - Part 5
###### After testing this badboy today - this *Sphere* unit has proven itself to be the best preamp in my arsenal BY FAR!! This thing sounds BIG, OPEN, and has a discrete yet ENORMOUS presence - and you can hear as much with the sound sample I recorded of myself (new track I am still writing) at the end of the following video (below).

###### *Sphere* hardware is some of the RAREST audio hardware in existence (especially their graphic equalizers), and the M1200B preamp is world renowned for its large presence, and it's doing FANTASTIC on my vocals so far. This rack also represent two out of the six parts I need to create [a *Sphere* custom console channel strip](https://peakd.com/hive-122315/@elamental/introducing-the-db-sphere-total-eclipse-custom-console-channel-for-elamental-underground-studios-building-audio-production-har) I published an article on a while back, in combination with a couple *Sphere* 920 Graphic EQs, *Reichenbach* transformers, and SPA-60s.

###### If you have been following this gear series, you know that the similar *looking* [RCA preamp rack I had custom made](https://peakd.com/hive-116127/@elamental/custom-racked-duel-channel-rca-ba-72a-preamp-modules-pulled-from-a-1960s-recording-console) arrived damaged from the shipping process. Now that the *Sphere* is here, I can finally send the *RCA BA-72A* rack back to New York for repairs (avoiding any downtime).

###### This thing looks gorgeous, sounds amazing, and will likely be the main preamp used for recording the rest of my second album. The dials are reversed, its quirky and weird... and I LOVE IT! My only complaints are that the channel 1 output gain knob is slightly loose, and for some reason the VU meters are not responding (yet again haha) - but the unit is functional otherwise.
