*Phoebis agarithe, the great orange brimstone, is a butterfly in the family Pieridae. It is found from northern Peru to southern Texas and peninsular Florida. There have been found rare strays up to Colorado, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and New Jersey. The species has also been introduced to Hawaii.*

###### *Common appearance:*
*The wingspan is 57–86 mm (2.2–3.4 in). The upper surface of the males is bright orange without markings. There are two female forms, a pink-white and yellow-orange form. The underside of the forewings of both sexes has a straight submarginal line. There are two seasonal forms: the winter form has heavier underside markings. Caterpillar is green with a pale yellow line on the sides. Lacks the short spikes of Phoebis pilea and Phoebis sennae.*

###### *Season:*
*Adults are on wing from August to September in southern Texas and all year round in the tropics. They feed on flower nectar, favoring lantana, shepherd's needle, bougainvillea, rose periwinkle, Turk's cap and hibiscus.
The larvae feed on fresh leaves of [Pithecellobium](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pithecellobium) and [Inga](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inga) species.*

>*Apariencia comun:
La envergadura es de 57 a 86 mm (2,2 a 3,4 pulgadas). La superficie superior de los machos es de color naranja brillante sin marcas. Hay dos formas femeninas, una forma rosa-blanca y amarilla-naranja. La parte inferior de las alas anteriores de ambos sexos tiene una línea submarginal recta. Hay dos formas estacionales: la forma de invierno tiene marcas más gruesas en la parte inferior. La oruga es verde con una línea amarilla pálida a los lados. Carece de las espigas cortas de Phoebis pilea y Phoebis sennae.
Temporada:
Los adultos vuelan de agosto a septiembre en el sur de Texas y durante todo el año en los trópicos. Se alimentan del néctar de las flores, y prefieren la lantana, la aguja de pastor, la buganvilla, la vincapervinca, la gorra de turco y el hibisco.
Las larvas se alimentan de hojas frescas de las especies Pithecellobium [Pithecellobium](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pithecellobium) e [Inga](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inga_edulis).*
