Recently I was very lucky and had the ability to photograph an original painting by the painter Carl Spitzweg (1808 - 1895) and I would like to go into more detail about his painting style in this article and list interesting facts that make his art so special. In his earlier times he was mainly considered a representative of the Biedermeier era and in his later works he also devoted himself to Romanticism and during his life he created over 1500 works of art and he was one of the most famous German painters during his lifetime and has stationed an example by his own style with high recognition value and is now famous worldwide. Spitzweg was known to have taught himself the important things about art as well as the different painting techniques and his works can usually be described as cheerful or atmospheric and if you look at a timeline of his works you notice how he had changed his style more and more in the course of his life and his works often also had impressionist influences. He was particularly known for the use of a special light color which was one of his trademarks and thus found his own artistic secret recipe and he also made other colors look extremely lively through his mixture and anyone who should look at a work of art from him should definitely take a specific eye on it. The right exposure was also one of his characteristics which give the artworks the right flair depending on the mood and motif, he was able to express both light or dark scenarios perfectly and in his works he worked relatively loosely and had a grandiose brushwork. For the inspiration of his works, his own experiences of his life were also of great importance and in his well-known work the alchemist he was influenced by his own activity in the field of pharmacy where he had acquired a lot of knowledge about alchemy and he was also influenced by landscape painting. He had some sources of inspiration and one of them was his travels to various European countries and was also influenced by old masters of art and he was also often guided by different sources. This artwork is just one of the many examples that express his art and in the next pictures, I have taken some close-ups and you should pay particular attention to the light as well as blue shades, which were one of his secret recipes when it comes to mixing the right colors.
