https://s7.postimg.cc/vn46b274r/Full_Size_Render.jpg
I’m not antisocial but I’m not the most social human being on earth either. I enjoy talking with people and meet new people as well but on a “normal” -I guess- basis. Some times I avoid talking to someone I come across in the street and I pretend not seeing him, not because I don’t like him, just because I’m really bored opening a conversation -ok that may sound a little less normal but anyway. My biggest problem though is when someone talks a lot. This is when I feel the urge to get in my shell, get locked in there and never come out till he’s gone. Some people can really talk and talk and talk, most of the times by repeating themselves, by asking the same things, by analysing a subject with no point and some times they don’t even let you say a single word. Since it would be rude to leave, the only choice you are left with, is zoning out. That’s what I do at least. Last summer I went to Andros for a wedding. It was not the first time visiting the island but since the previous time was a long time ago I didn’t remember much -nearly anything. The owner of the apartment we rent was a very kind woman who was willing to help us with anything we wanted. So after our arrival we asked her to give us some information about the highlights of the island, good places to eat etc. We started talking at 8 o clock in the evening and she finished at 9! For one whole damn hour she was telling us the same things over and over again as if we were retarded. She was showing us the map, marking the same places again and again to the point that the names were not readable anymore. I started getting annoyed, then I suffocated and then…zen. I couldn’t even listen to her. My mind took the car keys and went to explore the town and eat some ice cream. I was just physically there. Many attempts of “thank you we got it”, “that’s perfectly fine”, “yeah right thanks a lot”, “oh we are so hungry we cannot wait to go to the damn restaurant you told us 10 times about and eat”, failed. She was unstoppable. Since that was not the first encounter with such a creature and won’t be the last one either, I’ve trained myself zoning out. I can reassure you that it works and it’s the best advice I can give you -unless you can really handle the situation with a simple “f*ck off”! Count to ten and *puf*, you’re gone. Elia, I learned to represent at such moments that I am in some celestial place, I represent the singing of birds, the sound of the surf. 🙂
