"SOVOK", as it is
That's what depresses me most about in my country, and not only in my own, but in the entire post-Soviet space - this is a disgusting culture of everyday life. It is very dirty in the streets, in the entrances and in the apartments. And thus the space is so organized that even if to wash and clean it will still look dirty, wretched and disgusting. Many people are very dirty and untidy - a bad smell, a bad haircut, groomed nails, bad teeth. When you get to the countries of Western Europe - the difference is simply enormous. I'm also annoyed by dog breeders and the fact that all the streets are contaminated by their vile dogs - it's really disgusting. And no one is cleaning up our dogs for dogs (unlike France or Spain).
But the most sad of all this is the total lack of a food culture. It's not just that the products are disgusting, but that people do not notice it at all. And they think it's delicious. All these ugly frozen vegetables, which after defrosting acquire a consistency of snot - it is convenient. Or frozen meat, which after defrosting, becomes similar in consistence to the rubber sole. Remember - MEAT CAN NOT be frozen! I understand that there are children and work that it all takes a lot of time, but I, for example, know at least a hundred recipes that require minimal time directly at the stove, and at the same time it turns out beautifully and deliciously. And chops frozen three weeks ago are chops - it's just a nightmare, it's better to just eat a piece of bread without anything.
When I first started traveling to Western Europe - at first all the food there seemed to me tasteless and fresh. I did not have enough salt, vinegar, seasonings. And only with time, I began to understand why this is happening. Normal food there, just properly salted and seasoned. This was due to the fact that we all are stuffed with a monstrous amount of seasonings, in order to drown out the disgusting taste of the product itself.
This mayonnaise, which tries to nail absolutely everywhere for the same purpose - to disguise the disgusting taste of the product, while mayonnaise itself consists, at best, 60 percent of palm oil, and at worst from recycled petroleum products (the so-called combi)
And rice cooker or rice steamer these, when everything has to be cut and thrown like a pig in a trough, and then say that, oh, it's very tasty. By the way, again, in Europe, I have never seen a rice cooker or food cooked in them, as a maximum, there are so popular "bimbi" - it's such a robot culinary that not only cooks, but at the same time stirs so as not to burnt and does a lot more (but I would not have bought it anyway). The truth is he at the same time as an inexpensive car :)
In Eastern Europe, which did not have the misfortune to be in the USSR, by the way, most people are not very versed in food, they just have very good initial data, national cuisine, that is, the quality of the products is much better than ours. But in Ukraine, Belarus and Russia, the wretchedness of gastronomic tastes is amazing. In my family, for example, always cooked well and without this riot of baked mayonnaise and semi-finished products, but this is in fact, a great rarity. Therefore, usually I was always afraid to eat at a party, because they could bring some disgusting mash, which had to be gratified and complacently gratified. It was easier to say that my stomach hurts, so I will not eat.
At the same time it is worth noting excellent Russian-language content for all sorts of food topics - there are such communities and culinary blogs that I read glibly from cover to cover and from which I gathered a lot of useful information, but in general - the situation is very deplorable.

:) She's from Ukraine.

I'm sorry you feel that way. My country was never just a Slavic one, we were always heavily influenced by Italians, Venetians, Hungarians, and Austrians but the more I got emurged in other people's culuters trought the blessing that is modern day internet I found my self appriciating our Slavic heritige more and more. I think there is something profound in being mierable throughout history. That hardship virtually all Slavic countries go through just lets us understand the world more profoundly, I believe.

To be honest, I already got this Slavic mentality, in which any abomination and wretchedness is presented not as a defect, but as a virtue, because "but spirituality." And this is the very problem of all Orthodox nations - "the worse is the better", as we say. Maybe it all makes me so annoyed just because I'm not Orthodox, but an atheist))

Yes, suffering, ''trpljenje'' as we would say is one of the pillars of both Catholics and Orthodox.
