###### <center>El día de hoy, trataremos algunos mitos y consejos médicos sobre situaciones básicas que recaen sobre la acción materna para el buen funcionamiento de las personas que poseen este tipo de trastorno.</center>

### <center>La maternidad y el trastorno del espectro autista</center>

La mujer que decide ser madre y que se consigue con el desafío de tener hijos con trastornos del espectro autista, debe enfrentarse a barreras y dificultades en el desarrollo neurológico del hijo que son difíciles de abordar.

Ese periodo que abarca desde la gestación hasta la crianza, pasando por el parto, son momentos estresantes y de gran vulnerabilidad para la mujer.

Ella amerita del apoyo de la pareja y del apoyo especializado; no solo para conseguir las herramientas correctas, sino también para comprender esta alteración del neurodesarrollo, donde la comunicación difícil, los patrones repetitivos, así como la rigidez en la cognición, hacen que se afecte entre el uno y el 2% de la población general de las mujeres.

Aquí debemos tomar en cuenta el trastorno del cuidador en la madre; porque en ellas hay una mayor incidencia de patologías, como depresión pre y posparto, dificultades para llevar a cabo las multitareas de la maternidad, afrontar las demandas del hogar conjuntamente, y crear un escenario social donde se inserte el núcleo familiar sin tantas alteraciones de etiquetas y de explicaciones que exige el entorno.

Recomendar acciones es difícil, ya que, ha ameritado siempre del apoyo de la sociedad, de la atención a necesidades y demandas especiales y, sobre todo, de los profesionales de la salud.

### <center>Mitos recurrentes</center>

Los trastornos del espectro autista son una variedad de condiciones que afectan las habilidades sociales de comunicación, interacción, comportamiento e intereses de un ser humano.

Suele ser más frecuentes en varones; y afecta a una de cada 100 personas.

Pueden presentarse síntomas en el primer año de vida, pero, muchos casos, pueden hacer periodos de regresión entre los 18 y los 24 meses.

Más, ¿cómo comportarse un padre ante esto?

Lo primero, es entender que existen mitos difíciles de combatir; como que, el autismo es curable, que el ser humano con TEA tiene incapacidad intelectual; que hay trastornos de sentimientos, y que, el diagnóstico solo se hace en la infancia.

Pero también, que todos presentan problemas de conducta, que no se relacionan ni se comunican, que los problemas de aprendizaje son imposibles de combatir.

*El mito que más me ha llamado la atención es que el autismo se cura.*

Un trastorno del espectro autista no desaparece con el tiempo ni se cura, porque es una condición.

Pero puede mejorar y superar las dificultades de interrelación social.

Sin embargo, esto amerita de un tratamiento temprano, individualizado, para trabajar la comunicación y las relaciones sociales; e, igualmente, las capacidades cognitivas, la disminución de los patrones de conducta característicos y la posibilidad de ser autónomos.

Todo esto puede irse corrigiendo en la medida en que los equipos de salud especializados aporten herramientas y tratamientos para el niño y para la familia.

### <center>Mitos: Las vacunas y la relación conyugal. ¿Afectan más a la madre?</center>

Claro está que, de los mitos que más afectan a la madre, porque le impide tomar decisiones correctas en determinado momento del desarrollo de su hijo, son, que las vacunas producen este trastorno.

No existe ningún estudio científico que demuestre una relación causa-efecto entre la vacunación y los trastornos del espectro autista.

Este no se adquiere.

Es un trastorno del neurodesarrollo de origen genético; por lo tanto, como madre, es bueno entender que deben realizarse las vacunaciones correctas y determinadas hasta los momentos por las organizaciones de salud.

Los trastornos del neurodesarrollo que afectan al sistema nervioso no tienen nada que ver con las vacunaciones.

Por otro lado, el mito de que, la falta de cariño de los padres o de cuidado del entorno familiar, son razón para la existencia de estos trastornos, tampoco tiene ningún tipo de coherencia en la realidad.

Si sabemos que este neurodesarrollo atípico es de origen genético, debemos entenderlo como un problema de adaptación que pertenece al auxilio médico; al igual que la diabetes o la hipertensión arterial, entre otras, o entre otros problemas que llamamos idiopáticos.

### <center>¿Por qué tratamos estos puntos en la primera iniciativa de Actual Azul?</center>

Porque son dos situaciones que estamos viendo con mucha frecuencia los profesionales de la salud.

Los niños con TEA pocas veces tienen el esquema de vacunación en forma correcta, debido a este miedo mal infundado.

Este es un mito perverso que le impide al niño ser ayudado en el desarrollo de la inmunidad contra patologías graves que afectan, o pueden afectar, el desarrollo neurológico, además de la condición neuroatípica que él posee.

Y segundo, porque la culpa, muchas veces, es la principal causa de consulta en orientación, psicología y psiquiatría; específicamente con las madres.

A nivel afectivo, la mujer tiende a culparse de la falta de cohesión del núcleo familiar, por la poca sensibilidad y subjetividad que puedan emanar las relaciones que se dan en su familia.

Y esto hay que aclararlo, porque son factores que ocasionan angustia, ansiedad, estrés y culpa en la mujer.

Los TEA no tienen, absolutamente, nada que ver con las relaciones interpersonales entre padre y madre.

Por eso, debemos comenzar a observar los trastornos de este espectro autista como circunstancias que se dan producto del desarrollo genético; y no tiene nada que ver con castigos, con malas praxis ni con déficits o excesos sensoriales.

### <center>Motherhood and autism spectrum disorder</center>

The woman who decides to become a mother and who is faced with the challenge of having children with autism spectrum disorders, must face barriers and difficulties in the neurological development of the child that are difficult to deal with.

This period, from gestation through childbirth and upbringing, is a stressful and vulnerable time for the woman.

She deserves the support of her partner and specialized support; not only to get the right tools, but also to understand this neurodevelopmental disorder, where difficult communication, repetitive patterns, as well as rigidity in cognition, affect between one and 2% of the general population of women.

Here we must take into account the caregiver's disorder in the mother; because in them there is a higher incidence of pathologies, such as pre and postpartum depression, difficulties in carrying out the multitasks of motherhood, facing the demands of the home together, and creating a social scenario where the family nucleus is inserted without so many alterations of labels and explanations demanded by the environment.

It is difficult to recommend actions, since it has always deserved the support of society, the attention to special needs and demands and, above all, of health professionals.

### <center>Recurring Myths</center>

Autism spectrum disorders are a variety of conditions that affect a human being's social skills of communication, interaction, behavior and interests.

It tends to be more common in males; and affects one in 100 people.

Symptoms may occur in the first year of life, but many cases may regress between 18 and 24 months of age.

But how should a parent behave in this situation?

The first thing is to understand that there are myths that are difficult to combat, such as that autism is curable, that the human being with ASD has intellectual disability, that there are disorders of feelings, and that the diagnosis is only made in childhood.

But also, that they all present behavioral problems, that they do not relate or communicate, that learning problems are impossible to combat.

*The myth that has most caught my attention is that autism can be cured.*

An autism spectrum disorder does not go away with time, nor is it cured, because it is a condition.

But it can improve and overcome difficulties in social interaction.

However, this requires an early, individualized treatment to work on communication and social relationships; and, likewise, cognitive abilities, the decrease of characteristic behavior patterns and the possibility of being autonomous.

All this can be corrected to the extent that specialized health teams provide tools and treatments for the child and the family.

### <center>Myths: Vaccines and the marital relationship, do they affect the mother more?</center>

Of course, of the myths that most affect the mother, because it prevents her from making the right decisions at a certain point in her child's development, is that vaccines produce this disorder.

There is no scientific study that demonstrates a cause-effect relationship between vaccination and autism spectrum disorders.

It is not acquired.

It is a neurodevelopmental disorder of genetic origin; therefore, as a mother, it is good to understand that the correct vaccinations determined by health organizations should be carried out.

Neurodevelopmental disorders affecting the nervous system have nothing to do with vaccinations.

On the other hand, the myth that the lack of parental affection or lack of care in the family environment is the reason for the existence of these disorders has no coherence in reality.

If we know that this atypical neurodevelopment is of genetic origin, we should understand it as an adaptation problem that belongs to the medical aid; just like diabetes or arterial hypertension, among others, or among other problems that we call idiopathic.

### <center>Why did we address these points in the first Actual Azul initiative?</center>

Because they are two situations that we health professionals are seeing very often.

Children with ASD rarely have their vaccination schedule correctly, due to this ill-founded fear.

This is a perverse myth that prevents the child from being helped in the development of immunity against serious pathologies that affect, or may affect, neurological development, in addition to the neuroatypical condition he/she has.

And secondly, because guilt, many times, is the main cause of consultation in counseling, psychology and psychiatry; specifically with mothers.

At the affective level, women tend to blame themselves for the lack of cohesion in the family nucleus, due to the lack of sensitivity and subjectivity that may emanate from the relationships within the family.

And this must be clarified, because these are factors that cause anguish, anxiety, stress and guilt in women.

ASD has absolutely nothing to do with the interpersonal relationships between father and mother.

Therefore, we must begin to observe ASD as circumstances that occur as a result of genetic development; and it has nothing to do with punishment, malpractice or sensory deficits or excesses.

Hola amigo @emiliorios te doy la bienvenida con este temaso y reflexión en tu columna Actual Azul, que por cierto el nombre elegido tiene mucha fuerza e invita a actualizarnos sobre lo último que hay en materia de autismo. Gracias por demostrar tu interés en ayudar a despejar las dudas que pueden haber entorno al mundo azul. 

Por lo demás, muy acertada tu reflexión y la invitación para las madres azules. Tengo mucho que decir y bueno, anotando en agenda esta iniciativa para poder traer mi entrada.
