One of the sins that many people are guilty of, in fact, almost everyone, is telling lies. No matter how much a person tries to avoid it, sometimes you see yourself helplessly falling for it again and again.

This thing called lie, is one of the things that I can say even the strongest amongst us can't avoid.

Permit me to say that lies are in two categories according to human perspective, the small lies, that is telling lies to gain relief or shut a trivial issue up. For instance, avoid taking your children on a date in order to get some rest from work.

The second one is a big lie, mostly told on crucial issues, matters that have the potency to cause havoc. For instance lying to your boss at the office to escape being punished. 

It is very easy to avoid the last one because it is obvious, I mean it looks big and sinful before the eyes. Most people escape this one due to their faith. Even if the world turns against them, they won't tell a lie, not even to defend themselves or their career, they are always accountable for their actions.

But you see that in the first category (small lies) most people fall prey. However, I believe that no lie is big or small, a lie is a lie, even if it looks innocent to you.

I don't know why the truth is very difficult for us to embrace, yes, it has consequences, it's like a whip, it is bitter to handle but I think it is the best.

One thing most of us fail to understand is that injuries inflicted by truth can be healed and forgiven but a wound fabricated by lies is hardly healed, that thing tampers with trust and we know that once trust is broken, it is difficult to mend. 

This is why we must be deliberate about saying the truth and saying it early for our own good. Yes, it will offend people, and it may give people a bad picture about you but it will earn you respect and trust.

There is no reason whatsoever to tell lies, even if it will cost your life. What is the need when at the end of the day, the person will eventually find out, and trust me when they do at the wrong time, you may lose even more than what you have been trying to protect with the lies. 

No matter what it is, always tell the truth, it makes you a person of integrity. If your kids are bothering you to take them out, tell them “no, I am tired, we will do it some other time.” If they will cry, let them cry and they won't die. Let them get used to you as a person of integrity.

If you don't want visitors, tell the person “I am sorry, I don't want to see you,” and be emphatic about the reason even if it doesn't make sense.

Why must you lie? If you stole the goods, be sincere, admit it, and face the rod. If you cheated, admit it and face the consequences. You will learn from it. 

Sometimes you might obtain mercy others times you won't but it's worth it. I know it's difficult and I am not saying I am good at this, hehehe, but trust me, it is worth it. It will save you when you least expect it.

Telling lies is never a way out, it's only a trap to make things complicated.
