>It was just another day.

Darin was preparing to leave for work, as he kissed his wife and grabbed his briefcase.   He always walked two blocks up the street to catch the metro, as they only had one car.  Everyday  he saw an old man across the street, working on something outside.    With a few minutes to spare before his bus, Darin decided to approach the old man.

"That looks like an old metal toy" 
Looking up he sees the man in front of him.   " Yeah, I sand the rust off and paint them to look brand new."
"You must have a love for toys.   That one must be an old antique tonka truck."
"It is.   It dates back to the early 1960's, before they made plastic toys."
"I remember my Dad used to have a yellow metal toy maintainer. It must be worth fifty dollars or more today."
"I could care less about the money.  It is about my children."
"Your children?"
The old man laughs. "I don't have any children of my own. But the world is my children."
Darin looked perplexed for a moment. "What do you mean?"
Looking up with a tear in his eye.. "There's thousands of children out there controlled by their smart phones, electronics and big brother.   So many of these kids are from broken homes and even stolen by the CPS, they never have had a real childhood playing outside with toys.   I fix up these old trucks, cars and trains for them to have and play with, so they can be children again."

"Wow.. That is an act of love. But what do you mean about the CPS?"
The old man put down his sandpaper and yellow dump truck. " Well you see, it's like this.  Since about the 1990's, Child Protective Services has been sneaking around the neighborhoods, breaking up good families and stealing kids. There's big bucks in it for the government and these poor kids...  these little ones end up in foster care.   They are shuffled from home to home, some end up runaways on the street, in a prison or... or dead."
After a pause of silence, Darin speaks, "Wow, I never knew that.   What about the courts.  They should be able to help these families."

"Son, the judicial system is rigged with morally compromised and bought off judges and lawyers. These poor families spend their life savings to rescue their babies, only to see their money wasted.  I will never be a writer and am too old to be a legal warrior, but I can do my part. I give away these toys to children who don't have their mom or dad.   If it helps restore their childhood and lessen the pain brought on by the CPS.... well then it is worth it."

That evening, Darin told his wife about the old man, the toys and the CPS.   "It's as if he breathe new life into the toys and these poor children."
"Yeah, honey, I had heard that the CPS was a for profit organization.  They are responsible for much of the child trafficking in our nation.  You might say profit over people. You know there is a pro-family group that meats on Tuesdays at that non-denominal church down the street. Darin, we should check it out,"
"You're right.   You know there is too much apathy in this world today. Hmm...  maybe I can help that old man."

A few days pass. Darin stops to chat with the old man again on the way to work.   
"You are coming along with that dump truck."
"Yeah, it takes time, but the rust and filthy grime goes away."
"How many toys do you have to do?"
"Oh I have a bunch in the basement.  Come down stairs, I will show you."
The two walk down a wooden stairwell where from below  there were hundreds of metal toys of different shapes and sizes.  There were cars, airplanes, scooters, trains, ships and yes... more trucks! And that old man picks up additional toys when he can. 
"You know they don't make toys to last anymore.  The plastic stuff breaks down and ends up thrown away.  Kind of like how they treat families and children today.  The world is too plastic.  That why I use the metal toys."
"I think I can help you. Are you going be around Saturday?"
"I am here every day, Drop by if you want."

That evening Darin thought as he lay in bed how an old man could do so much selflessly and anonymously for children. What could he do? There must be something. 


Saturday came with sunshine and eager hearts. Darin had recruited three of his buddies to help the old man with his old toys. 
"It's a great day to clean up some toys. I brought my friends and we want to help.   We have a solution that can speed up the cleaning process.  It is a liquid rust and grime remover."  

The afternoon passed. And the old man was amazed at how many metal toys were cleaned up.   But more importantly, he was overwhelmed, with gratitude, for the selfless teamwork these young lads showed.   

"We would like to come back and help you paint and share the toys with the children. We have heard of the pain and misery these kids go through.   Perhaps these will reach more kids and they can find some happiness."




>It was just another day... or was it?

That next week Darin and his wife and his buddies attended their first pro-family meeting. To Darin's surprise, a gentle face smiled at them from across the room.   It was the old man.

Darin was so right. If that old man could selflessly do so much to protect the innocence of children, what more can we do? It's amazing what can happen, when we, like Darin, choose to cross that street and discover. The cancer of apathy is eating away at our world and destroying the safety of our children. Just like those metal toys, it is a rust and grime that destroys.

Darin used a chemical solution to cleanup the filthy rust.   But, we are the solution, we are the voice for the voiceless. We are the cleanser, when we protect innocence and defend families. 

>I once knew of a older woman who would go to garage sales and Goodwill stores to buy stuffed animals to give to traumatized children.   The ideas  of things we can do, and the opportunities are countless...and invaluable.

Each of us has a gift to share. It may not be discovered yet.  We may not be writers or journalists. We may not know all the legal jargon or the hoops to climb through.  But the caring heart can make the difference in the protection of innocence and defending families. Together, we are a tapestry of a unified non-compliance of child theft and trafficking. Together we can provide a zero tolerance to the schemes of the CPS and other human racketeering. 

>When we touch the lives of families and children... it is not just another day. It is the beginning of freedom and hope for the voiceless and hurting.
