Silver As #1 Currency
For some reason, I think there's a myth out there that gold has been the #1 go to throughout the centuries as a store of value.

Running quite contrary to this belief, throughout both the Old Testament & New, other than during King Solomon's reign, silver was usually more highly prized than gold.

There are lots of examples of it. Atm I'm not recalling the precise OT examples, but I remember reading a bunch of examples of that gifts & payments were generally always given in silver. Yes, gold was occasionally included as a gift or payment, but silver was generally #1. During King Solomon's reign was an exception as silver became extremely abundant, such that there was so much of it that it says it was as common as rocks in the streets. Pretty much that's the one main exception of when gold was more valued. NT examples include, the pieces of silver paid to Judas, and the parable of the 10 pieces of silver, one was lost in a house, & celebrating when it was found.

At least in the Bible, it seems to me that silver was #1
