Have you ever had something in your life that draws you towards it like a moth to a porchlight but you can’t explain why? Fast cars definitely fit into that category for me, and also my younger brother. On paper the attraction makes zero sense. But then we were pretty much raised with petrol in our veins, we have our father to thank for that. 

Dad grew up piecing together hot rods with his friends in the 50’s and 60’s and then graduated to muscle cars when walked into a Chrysler dealership and bought his magnificent 1969 Dodge Charger. 

For the past three years the cure for my personal car-affliction has been my Tesla Model 3. It punches way above its weight when it comes to acceleration/handling and constantly gets better with over-the-air software updates. I don’t see this feeling of satisfaction going away anytime soon. 

My brother who, so far steered clear of EVs, has owned a succession of impressive performance cars over the years but just yesterday he texted me a few photos that got my old feelings stirring again.

Since we’ve been young boys Corvettes have always turned our heads. To us, growing up in lower middle-class America in the 1970’s Corvettes always seemed exotic and unattainable. Well yesterday the, seemingly, unattainable was finally attained. My brother purchased his first Corvette—a used 2021 with just a little over 2,000 miles on the odometer. He’s driving it up to Minnesota when he visits in August and I can’t wait to meet this newest family member. : ) 

General Motors have outdid themselves with this C8 generation of the car. They managed to squeeze supercar level performance into a car that costs a fraction of the price of its competitors. GM also made this car capable of driving every day as well, which is no small feat.

Tesla successfully completed its first autonomous delivery. The new Model Y drove itself about seventeen miles from the showroom right to the customer’s front door. The evolution of this technology just continues to impress but what’s not impressive is the lack of media coverage of this milestone event.

I’ve enjoyed this series since it first debuted in 2022 but this newest season raises the bar considerably. Previous seasons were great but leaned a little heavily on chaos and shock value. Season four is just pure cinematic perfection and the writing is some of the best I’ve experienced in streaming television. The fact that this season dropped on Anthony Bourdain’s birthday, June 25th, also earns it high marks in my book.
