On Top Of The World

Today I got a comment from my dear friend @creativemary, that made me think of how true what she said is.

She's 100% right, I know that from experience. Whenever I go abroad, to visit a nice place, returning home is bitter sweat. Leaving those places is difficult, but at least you remain with the nice memories and plan your next visit. 

Today I'd like to show you some amazing places that right now would cure me of all problems I am facing. I'm not sick, don't get me wrong, but every human being needs a break and a *paradise-like* place can rebalance you pretty fast.

*Breiðdalsvík*

Breiðdalsvík is a fishing town in Iceland and the place the lady is sitting on the photo I would call the top of the wold. When I first saw the photo, my only wish was it could be me sitting in that place. Unfortunately my biggest enemy made sure to ruin the photo, but if you make an effort, you can see the beauty of the place. 

I'm not totally new to such scenes. Once, many years ago I had the chance to be at the top of a mountain at a very early hour, when the sun started to rise and had the pleasure to see the whole valley covered in fog and sunshine at the top of the mountain. I can assure you, it's a priceless experience and truly hope everyone can go through it at least once. There was another case, I think ten years ago or so, when I woke up to such a scene, but that wasn't so high up. Nonetheless, the experience was just as lovely as the first one. When you go back to the busy, noisy and dusty city life, you appreciate these moments even more. This is why I could sit there all day, doing nothing, just listening to the silence and enjoying the view.

This is another place I would gladly visit. Look at how the light is coming though the clouds and shines all over the place. It's not a very frequented place, you can see the sand has very few footprints or marks and the wind had time to create some interesting patterns on the surface of the sand. This was one of my favorite photos and congrats to Zsolt Timár for these amazing photos! He's the photographer by the way.

*Jökulsárlón*

>Jökulsárlón (literally "glacial river lagoon") is a large glacial lake in southern part of Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland. Situated at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, it developed into a lake after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The lake has grown since then at varying rates because of melting of the glaciers. The glacial front is now about 8 km (5.0 mi) away from the ocean's edge and the lake covers an area of about 18 km2 (6.9 sq mi). In 2009 it was reported to be the deepest lake in Iceland, at over 284 m (932 ft), as glacial retreat extended its boundaries. The size of the lake has increased fourfold since the 1970s. Look at the colors and the light! The reflections of the glacier on the surface of the water. It must be a unique experience to see this beauty live. 

Not long ago I was telling you in one of my blog posts, that winter is not what it used to be and that we rarely get to see snow, let alone low temperatures as -20°C or even lower. 

Iceland is a different matter as winter is winter there, not a cold spring like we're having here during winter, but as you can see, glaciers are melting, which means temperatures are rising there as well.

This has nothing to do with the photos, but it made me smile for sure. While writing the title of the photos, which are all places where the photos were taken, was thinking of the similarities between the Icelandic language and Hungarian.

From difficulty point of view, both languages are placed in the 4th category, which is a high difficulty level. However, Hungarian is marked with asterisks, meaning is more difficult than the other languages, along with another few. The funny thing is, the Hungarian alphabet has quite a few common letters with Icelandic, vowels such as á, é, í, ó, ö, and I thought maybe learning Icelandic would be easier for me. So I listened to how you pronounce Jökulsárlón for example, a word which is perfectly pronounceable for a Hungarian and surprise, surprise. It's not quite the same. So even though I can pronounce it, or at least I have the impression I could, I would still need to make a few adjustments, to do it right. Now imagine those who doesn't have these vowels in their vocabulary 😂 I don't want to, better not.

*Sommarøy*

>Sommarøy is an old fishing village in the western part of Tromsø Municipality in Troms county, Norway. It is located about 36 kilometres (22 mi) west of the city of Tromsø and is a popular tourist destination due to its white sand beaches and scenery. The 0.34-square-kilometre (84-acre) village has a population (2017) of 321 which gives the village a population density of 991 inhabitants per square kilometre (2,570/sq mi). This was another nice photo of a lovely place. As you already know, you can buy me with any blue-green combination, especially if it comes to nature photos. You can visit the place as it's a popular tourist attraction ad it has white sand beaches. Now most of you would think if it has white sand beaches, it's the perfect place for summer vacation, bathing, sipping cocktails under nice, colorful umbrellas and all that comes with it. Well, it's nothing like that. The highest temperature is in July and August and it's 14°C. 

This exhibition showed a part of the world that maybe is less known to us, because these places are not the typical, hyped tourist destinations and that's the beauty of them. I would rather visit these places that some crowded beach with loud music. How about you?

Some fabulous photos there. I was watching a nature series about the British Isles recently and one of the things mentioned that I never knew was that the mountains here once used to be much, much bigger, possibly as tall as the Himalayas. They've been eroded over a very long time by the weather. The thought of being able to wander these islands experiencing mountains as big as that is quite mind blowing.

This is quite surprising to be honest. Mountains are constantly eroded, that is true but the size of erosion is surprising. The truth is, landscapes are reshaped all the time by the power of water, kilometers of dry land is swallowed by seas where the beach is not protected. Also, new dry land appears where lakes disappear due to drought. These are interesting things and I think if you dig deeper into the history of any place, you can find surprising phases.

Yup definitely not a warm place for shorts and swimming. But it does have some spectacular views of nature. Volcanoes, mountains, boiling pits, northern lights and quite a bit more. I watched a show actually last night on the Vikings who lived there back in the mid 8th Century. It talked about the struggles they had and how they fished and hunted there which helped them survive and provided them traded goods. I found it very interesting. Oh I definitely would rather be at a place like this than a crowded tourist attraction or beach. The sounds and feels of nature are the best remedies for a lot of things. I sit on that mountain in that photo and take everything in 😊

Addendum: Japanese is definitely hard. Sure, Hiragana and Katakana can be quite easy (don't talk to me about subject-verb agreement, I still am not in that level), but then came　Kanji.

I'm not sure which between Chinese or Kanji is a harder prospect to have. Nonetheless, I'm just slowly learning from listening to Japanese subs in playing Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force games. Don't give me Kanji memes, please

Yes, that is right! These are both Uralic languages.

I love that last shot with the light house on the island such a vast landscape.  I would definitely take these views over a beach with crowds and noise.  btw I worked closely with a Chinese lady for years.  Chinese IS really hard for English speakers 😅

I was looking at that and thinking how small that lighthouse is compared to everything else around it. 

Lol, Chinese is a simple language, yet still hard and I'm glad I don't have to learn it 😅. I speak four languages and could easily learn another but not Chinese or Japanese or those 😬
