Tulips has always fascinated me. It's a delicate flower that is not cheap here and only lasts for a couple of days. So if you buy a bouquet, make sure you enjoy it as in two days the petals start to fall off.

When I think about tulips, the Netherlands is the country that always pops into my mind. It is not a coincidence as the country is also called the country of tulips for a good reason. When I was visiting, there were tulips literally everywhere.  

I've been looking at the photos from [Keukenhof](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keukenhof), [also known as the Garden of Europe, one of the world's largest flower gardens](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keukenhof). My cousin had the occasion to visit this flower heaven years ago and she sent me the photos she took there. It's amazing how many type of tulips they have. 

I visited the Netherlands in October, so there was no point to go to Keukenhof as the time to visit the place is spring, maybe early summer. Once day I'm going to go back, I'm sure of that, but till then, I have to enjoy what I can find here. 

Today I was going to the post office and to do some shopping and passing by the park I saw these beauties almost ready to open. What I loved the most about the photos from Keukenhof was the texture of the petals, the change of colors and the stripes and the diversity they had to offer. 

It is not easy to catch those on camera, especially not if you look at he flowers from the supermarket. Those are already open and the petals have the same color everywhere. 

Today however I was lucky to find these. There are two types on the photos. The first photo is especially interesting as not only have a multitude of colors, ranging from green, to yellow and red, but the texture of the petals is also visible. For me this is the most interesting phase. 

The others below are not the same, I suppose when open, will have a lot more petals and shorter than the first ones. I suppose there are a few days needed to open, so who knows, I may go back and do another photo shoot, to try to catch more petals like in the first photo. 

The problem is that I took these photos with the macro option, which means you have to get as close to the flower as possible. But these are short flowers, the tallest is maybe 20cm from the ground and for me to take good shots, I have to kneel down and can't do it anywhere. it would look funny if I would be rolling on the ground in the process.  

I'd love to see some really dark ones too and striped ones but I doubt I would in public spaces. These flowers are planted by the city and usually this is what they have. However, I'm not giving up. Who knows what I will be able to find if I visit another part of the city. Hope dies last, that's what they say, right?
