Today I'm back with my woo addiction, to show you how amazing wood is, but also show you some berries. First I'd like to show you some cut wood, some bushes actually, that I photographed last week. A warning is in order here, please note, these are macro photos, so what you see here are not big wood logs, but thin bush branches.  Last week, when I passed these bushes and saw workers have trimmed the branches already, knew right away there's a good occasion for me to take some good photos. It's not the first time, nor the last one as my addiction always drives me towards freshly cut wood. There are a few days when you can take these cool photos, after which, the wood starts to lose this nice color and if there's rain, the change is even faster. When it's gray or dark brown, there's nothing interesting to see. You can't even see the rings anymore. There are a few things I'm looking for, when it comes to freshly cut wood. First it's the cut surface, which has to be as straight and precisely cut as possible and this is why I'm always annoyed, when the wood is not cut right. The piece on the photo above is a good example for what I am saying. Maybe with naked eye it looks ok, but with a macro lens, or a magnifying glass, you can see the sloppy work 😂 You can imagine the men doing the job had one thing in mind, which must have been: *do the job and go home as soon as possible*, so they did not think of the artistic aspect of the outcome and sure did not care if I'm satisfied with the result or not.  This is another sloppy cut and looking at the left side, they may have burnt it too. Nonetheless, if you don't count the *contamination*, the piece is perfect. The rings are symmetrical. The center has a different color, which is not a good sign as it indicates some kind of disease, which can lead to destruction.  Here's a photo with me holding the branch, to show you how "*big*" these are. This is the same piece that you can see on the first photo, but unfortunately the camera decided to focus on my fingers, not on the branch.  Here is another interesting piece and my first photo of this kind. You may wonder what is so special about this. If you look closely, you can see two sets of circles, which means this was the level, where two branches grew together, before taking separate ways. The one on the left has a brown spot in the center, which indicate some kind of disease.  This is a mystery and while I was trying to figure out what to write about this, I had to realize that what I was trying to do can be called *"reading"* the wood. It's just that I can't read this one. I like the brown bark, it looks great, but the rest is not regular.  Don't ask me what this is as I have no idea. I suppose it used to be a flower, maybe some kind of rose (?) and this is all there was left of it. My only goal here was to take a sharp photo of it. This is also tiny, so I had to hold the camera steady.  This odd creature was next to the other one, so I suppose the two are the same thing, just differently developed. I mean the first one was open, this one dried closed, if that makes sense at all.  Another one, from a different angle. Interesting creature for sure. I know where I took these photos, I'm passing by very often, so next spring I need to see what these are, maybe learn something, as I always do.
