It would be very good to see MSM here on Steemit. Would bring tons more people to the platform. However, I think people made fake accounts for them and are just copying and pasting their articles which is bad because it means those medias can NEVER join Steemit using their name.

The beauty of steemit is its freedom, so nobody gets to decide who´s on it. (At least in theory, because whoever is in charge of verifying accounts could deny certain people their accounts.) So if the KKK, IS and Justin Bieber would voice their opinion here, it would be the price to pay for freedom, but I don´t have to read it if I don´t want to. I don´t watch TV and don´t go to KKK rallies in real life, so why would I bother with them here?
Just like in real life there can be thousands of parallel universes without any points of contact here on steemit.

lol, yes fakenews indeed. If they did want to start here they would have to call themselves something like TheRealBuzzFeed now that their name is gone.

The thing that alerted me initially to the Jamie Oliver one was, like you say, no intro, but also no mention on his own social media like twitter. It is a shame too, it would have been cool if he was here.

^ Probably. But what if a major media network or social media site *were* to create a Steemit account? Would it be a good, bad, or neutral thing?

I have mixed thoughts and feelings on this. For one thing, part of the reason why these giants are giants is because they give a certain large subset of people what they want in terms of news and media. If those same types of people exist on Steemit, then they can give them what they want on Steemit, and I'm okay with that.

On the other hand, it seems like an influx of media heavy-hitters on Steemit could change the Steemit landscape in ways that I don't fancy. 

On the other, other hand (I've got a lot of hypothetical hands for weighing out thought experiments), a big entity such as Reddit or Fox News joining Steemit could bring in a lot of new members. But if they only came to follow Fox News or Reddit, would they be valuable additions to the Steemit community? 

Lots of questions to ponder.

@lesliestarrohara, I am multi-handed on this with you! lol When I saw their presence, that's the first time I realized I -- rather territorially -- feel that Steemit is an ALTERNATIVE social media platform... **AN OASIS FROM the mainstream madness...**

So my first, second and third gut reactions were all... well, tribal.

I immediately jumped into us/them binary (non)thinking... presuming opposition with Fox... underestimating the power of an intelligent free market... so that if they come bringing the FUD and the mud, they will not be rewarded, followed and read. 

And, hey, if some want their FUD fix met, and lamestream news provides that, who am I to judge?

I definitely felt/feel a Mama Bear reaction, though...

That Steem Followers is a great site. I have started using it recently. Keep track of people following me. And I've noticed no one has muted me. I thought this may have been a good thing at first, but then I now wonder - am I that beige?
