Symbol Within The Star

Can you, please tell me what this symbol within the star represents? Thank you very much.

This is a monochrome shot of a button. I suppose it belonged to some sort of a uniform. I could be not right :)

My guess is that this sentence, at the end of your second link, best sums up the meaning of the button:
