Level Up Gun Bunny

We meet again, my favourite gun community. Last time I tried my hands on a [CBC 7022](https://peakd.com/hive-139358/@eveuncovered/shooting-day) but I like big guns and I can not lie, so this time I got me something more impressive to try out. I'm very new to shooting but excited to learn and try more, it's in my blood as dad says so I need to excel in this sport and I want to be great fast. Luckily I have an easy access to some (objectively) nice guns and great teachers. 

I know you gun nerds like to know this stuff so here are the specs for the gun in question:

>This here used to be a **Izhmash Saiga 308-1 Sporter**, with 7.62x51 Nato ammo, but it's obviously heavily modified by the owner. I'm sure there are some original pieces underneath all the custom goodness but I'd have to phone a friend if you need to know more.

I was nervous and excited to shoot with it, and I wasn't expecting to do too well, my aim (eh eh) was to just hit the target paper with all my shots, but of course I'd like to get just tens. We shot from 75 meters in nice conditions and my first five shots were mostly on the white, then I got a few tips and the next five were a lot better. I marked my shots in red so you can see how I did on my first try ever at a gun like this. Obviously a lot of room for improvement but I'm pretty pleased and definitely will try this again.

The 7.62 is nice to shoot, pretty effective when used in anger too.

It's good to see you're working on your prone position which, as you say, can take some getting used to. Legs wider and feet flatter to the ground is the way to go. Pro tip: When your legs are wider the knees tend not to get in the way as much. The more grounded you are the less affect your body will have on the rifle and the better it'll manage the recoil allowing faster and more accurate follow-up shots and your eye stays on-target better. (This last is critical in long range shooting)

Also, it's really good to see you're not angled off to the left. The rifle aligns with your torso meaning that the recoil will be absorbed by most of your body and then transferred to the ground rather than just your shoulder. *The prone position is all about as much of your body being grounded as possible.* So, pretty good positioning. Well done. 

Of course, at 75m it's not so much an issue, the above. But when the range gets out to 1000m and beyond all those little things will come into play and will make for accurate shooting.

Nice shooting Eve and good to see you enjoying it. That's the main thing. Keep at it, you'll get better.

My man might not be the smartest of person as he is willingly teaching his passionate woman how to shoot. 😝😈

There is not much mass to me so I'd think that makes my prone position even more critical, but at least I have broad shoulders, though not much cushion to them. I obviously wore as little clothes as possible so that I could direct the force to the ground like a lightning rod! 😝

I think I've read a few posts about trigger discipline somewhere so I do pay attention to it. I'm also not a bonehead.

Teaching you to shoot might mean he's orchestrating his own demise - He better be a good lad or you'll put an end to him. 🤪

The prone position will become more important as the range gets further, but is just as important at close range, say when zeroing a scope. 

I do that at 100m and look for putting all the bullets into the same hole before I'm happy with the zero. Anything less will mean the rifle won't be accurate at long range. So, shooting skills are just as important at that range than they are at 1500m. Anyway, you're getting it and with practice you'll get better and better, more accurate. 

Good to hear you're note bonehead-oriented but you'll be surprised to know how many are. You know, those who get their gun-knowlegldge off the movies and TV. 🤣

Basically. A shorter mag won't get in the way as much when you go prone. It's the only reason AR and AK owners outside California keep 10 or 20 round mags on hand.
