The head of the non-commercial organization behind the development of the cryptocurrency initiative Facebook said that, despite all the obstacles, they do not intend to give up the plan to launch a payment instrument.

In a conversation with the French edition of Les Echos, Libra chairman of the board Bertrand Perez said that stablecoin should be launched in the second half of 2020.

According to him, the company's plans do not include the issue of new money supply through Libra. We do not want to become a new BlackRock," he said, referring to the world's largest asset management company. - That's why concerns about the destabilizing effect of our reserve currency on the fiat currencies of central banks, which will be included in our basket, seem unfounded to me.

Earlier this week, Facebook named a sample basket of currencies to be used to secure Libra. These include the U.S. dollar, the euro, the Japanese yen, the British pound and the Singapore dollar. At the same time, the yuan company did not mention it, while earlier American Senator Mark Warner expressed fears that China might push it to this step.

Perez confirmed the information on the plan to use the world's largest currencies to provide Libra and expressed confidence that by the time of the expected launch of Libra all doubts of the regulators will be eliminated. "We have set aside a year for the launch - this time will allow us to resolve all problems," he added.

On Thursday, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Mayor promised to block the development of Libra in the EU due to threats to currency sovereignty.
