Roger demonstrated good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills in stretching the rubber bands around the pegs of the geoboard whilst exploring patterns and shapes. He showed resilience when he persisted in stretching and forming shapes around the pegs even when his first attempts to stretch the rubber bands were not successful. When he created his patterns on the geoboard, he celebrated his own efforts and achievements and was quite proud to show his work to his peers and Educators.

I remember something like this when I was young, although it was wood with metal pins in and we used string. Very handy for learning making patterns and shapes.

Yes, geoboard is an educational tool for fine motor development and for learning mathematical concepts such as patterns and shapes, as what you mentioned. 

Last year, I asked my husband to make me a couple of geoboards out of wood and metal pins, and he did. He painted the wood black and the metal pins gold. We used it at the early learning centre to extend children's interest and learning about space and constellations. They used those geoboards to copy the pattern of the constellations, or they could make their own.
