Don't touch the petals!

It is almost spring around here and I already did see some wild poppies blooming here and there. It is not the real wave yet that will happen in about 2 months. Then lawns and sides of the roads will drown in red petals. The few I saw were somehow in a hurry though.

It is not a post about the wild ones yet.
The ones you see here I shot at my mum's garden. She has few types of poppies growing there and all of them are far from ordinary. 



This type is over a meter tall, with very thick, almost woody stems covered in hair. The petals are large and so delicate that it seems they would fall apart if you try to touch them. They will move and bend with the slightest wind. The flowers are about the size of an orange, with very dark center.

And now imagine a garden of those mixed with other flowers they share the space with.

There is another cool part about them. Not only that they look stunning, they don't require almost any care. This part of the garden takes all the sun in the summer and is hardly watered. The seeds will mature in those cute poppy seed pods and will fall to the soil. They will stay they though the winter and in spring, when they are ready, a new plant will grow. No need to sow, plant... nothing :)
