As expected the reward pool is going down today. But where will it go?

Today as expected the reward pool is shrinking instead of growing.

The payouts of posts made 7 days ago are due today and the reward pool is paying more than is coming in. I wrote about that [here](https://steemit.com/exyle/@exyle/payouts-gone-up-a-filled-to-the-brim-reward-pool-will-start-dishing-out-rewards-3-days-from-now). (It's a theory).

If you want to see for yourself how much is in the reward pool you can check the website [steemd.com](steemd.com) *(it's on the right side under Rewards fund, also if you refresh you can see it changing)*.

We did manage to reach a million STEEM this morning before it went down. I think that could be a record.

It's hard to tell how far it will drop before we reach balance. Many things have changed around here.

But for now just expect your vote to become worth a little less and the potential payouts to drop as well to avoid disappointment :)

Other reasons the reward pool has grown so much is that part of the curation rewards from votes before the 15 minute mark are put back into the reward pool and Spam accounts have less chance to nibble away at the rewards as well (due to running out of RC credits).

I find it hard to guess how much effect that will have on the growth of the pool and therefor it's hard to tell where we will end up. 

Of course like most I'm hoping it will find balance fast.

The rewards of the last few days have been great for everyone and a nice extra for the people that kept blogging!

Wouldnโ€™t it also be the HF had less people active and competing for rewards so itโ€™s also built up over that time and will start to reduce as people find their way back to the platform? My feeds have sill been pretty quiet compared to before the HF

I agree and the reward pool could possibly remain proportionately bigger because plankton and minnows will not be as active (due to low RC) - so there will be less people in the reward pool.

While this may be true in the short term, all should have in mind that the fact that STEEM remains below $1 provides a great opportunity to earn more rewards in SBD to convert in Steem Power.  You also will get more per $1 earned so it should not be a sign to reduce engagement, instead increase it!
