The Mystic - The Seven Luminaries

<b>PERSONALITY</b>
The Mystic’s awareness of reality is so above and beyond he’s unable to view things seriously. Aloof and playful, the Mystic only senses real danger when multi-verse perils come his way. He has a terrible habit of disappearing and reappearing during conversations, à la Cheshire Cat, which only enhances his sense of detachment.

<b>AESTHETIC</b>
I wanted the Mystic to echo traits from many of Dali’s paintings. The surreal dream quality; mainly the sense of solid objects melting. The Mystic is not attached to our reality, so his limbs can break apart and regroup with ease.

<b>REDESIGN</b>
I stuck to the overall pose from the original 2017 design, including the egg at the bottom, like a genie out of a bottle, but wanted to do something different with his hands, and then had to adjust the design itself—simplifying a bit, so it read more like an Animated Series design. Instead of reaching out toward us, I wanted his hand movement to indicate the opening of some kind of inter-dimensional portal.

<b>NAME</b>
From the beginning I kept tying his name to magic: Sorcerer, Magician, The Universal Man…In the end, “The Mystic” felt the strongest, as it not only tied him to magic, but to a more esoteric meaning, and the kind of ecstasy (or altered state of consciousness) linked to becoming one with the Absolute.

He can warp reality, and make his thoughts come to fruition. Astral projection. Universal awareness. Access to dimensions. Complete control of his molecules.

Project was originally conceived in 2017.
