Insects Of The World | Red Cotton Stainer in Action | Dysdercus cingulatus
Hello everyone, I hope you all are well. I'm here again with a new insect album. I captured these shots a few days ago, and today, I finish up the editing and sharing with the community. Nowadays, I'm using Affinity Photo to Denoise and apply a clarity filter.
### Introduction

Dysdercus cingulatus, sometimes known as the red cotton stainer, is a true bug member of the Pyrrhocoridae family. It's a major pest of cotton crops, with adults and older nymphs feeding on emerging bolls and maturing cotton seeds, spreading cotton-staining fungus in the process. ***It belongs to a well-known species [Dysdercus cingulatus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dysdercus_cingulatus)***

### Appearance
Dysdercus cingulatus has a maximum size of 12 to 18 mm in length (0.47 to 0.71). It's mostly red, but there's a white-collar and three black spots on it. It is extremely similar to Dysdercus koenigii. However, D. cingulatus is slightly larger and has various degrees of black on the femora, whereas D. koenigii has a totally red femur.

### Food Source

D. cingulatus feeds on a variety of crop plants, including okra (Abelmoschus esculentus), musk mallow (Abelmoschus moschatus), hibiscus, white jute (Corchorus capsularis), citrus, and maize, in addition to cotton (Gossypium) (Zea mays). It also kills trees like the silk cotton tree (Bombax ceiba), the kapok tree (Ceiba pentandra), the teak tree (Tectona grandis), and the portia tree (Tectona grandis) (Thespesia populnea).
