I think I may have a problem.  Every night lately, I am sat in my kitchen in the dark with an old laptop circuit board and approx 20 pieces of photographic equipment for company.  I spend ages setting up these shots, jealously guarding the dark lest a family member should venture in to MY kitchen and turn on the lights while I'm in the middle of setting this or that shot up!  

This is tonight's result:

Some lightpainters refer to this type of lightpainting as "SOOK" as in straight outta the kitchen.  This is the first of two test shots required to make the above image where I used a 35mm lens fitted with macro extension tubes to focus on a circuit board.  To get the bokeh I tilted the board out of parallel with the camera to throw some parts of it in focus and some out of foucs.  If you look closely, the bokeh is unbelievably complex with this lens and macro tube combination:

With the above test shot, there were three flashguns involved; one gelled green behind the board and one on each side gelled red and blue.  I usually spend ages adjusting the power settings to get the balance just right but I am getting quicker at the set up (that's practice....)

For the kinetic stripe I used an Ikea Gamsebo bulb where I placed a 49mm to 77mm filter adapter over the bulb to create the circle within a circle. I first exposed for the bulb and carefully panned the camera across to the right without nudging the tripod too much so as to avoid camera shake.

Once happy with both elements, I set about combining both in to one photographic exposure.  The process involves changing lenses in the dark and swapping tripods between each element.  The set up for this image took maybe 90 minutes but the actual exposure here was only 58 seconds!  Like I said, I think I may have a problem!! ;-)
