Lightpainting orbs of OCD on Hive

One of the things they don't tell you about when you start out in the world of lightpainting is the unavoidable bouts of OCD (obsessive complusive disorder) you will inevitably develop whilst trying to perfect the techniques.  Tonight was one such night whilst out in the dark in my local woods, which happens to be Sherwood Forest.

**Dendrochronological Orb Waving**

This shot drove me nuts this evening.  I've alway wanted to shoot against a background of cut trees and combine a double exposed lens and tripod swap.  This shot involved spinning an orb (basically a LED light on a wire) and lining it up inside the log pile.  To combine the two elements requires two tripods and two lenses to make it possible to combine all parts in to one photographic exposure.

This was about the best orb I got all evening:

**Orb on Fire**

I don't always get these lightpainted orbs wrong. Some nights I just spin and get it right first time and some nights I trip over my three left feet trying to spin the perfect orb!

**Grand Theft Orb**

This was one of my earlier orbs using a home made orb tool shot in an abandoned factory:

**Abandoned Sparky Orb**

I've even made orbs with burning steel wool and got it right!  This was shot in an abandoned factory in Sheffield where I've also lit the cheeky graffiti:

**The Half Round Orb**

As if making a regular full spherical orb wasn't hard enough, I made a rod for my own back and created a half round one where I switch off the light as the circle spins at the top:
