With the DAO and all the talk about digital currencies, it's quite easy to get wrapped up in the promise/hype vs. the reality.  
Talent seems to be a great equalizer.  Even if you can shoot the three ball or play defense, doesn't mean that you will go directly to the NBA.  As insiders in Bitcoin community know, there has been debate over block size.  Many of the core developers decided to leave that path and begin a new path.

Hence, Decred (https://www.decred.org/) was created. One key initial contribution has been the "Golang" development environment.  This platform provides a modern language that helps with building code contributions (contracts,etc).  In addition, their security approach with Blake-256 seems to address the gaps in the other security vectors (SHA-256). 
" The project, according to the press release, is seen as one to address “the issues of project governance and development funding” that is seen as prevalent in Bitcoin today".
Most agree that "Governance" is a hot topic in the development world and questions like:
How do we ensure the integrity, security or authenticity of a system?  come up daily.  
The organization that's leading this project is referred to as "Company 0"  and they seem to be a strong talent pool which at the end of the day can win a championship.  However, the best technology doesn't always win.
