So what is the Fermi paradox? To put simply, it is the lack of evidence of extra terrestrial life despite the high probability that we are not alone in the universe. 

I grew up watching Star Wars and Star Trek and thought by the time I reached my adulthood or perhaps a little later, we would have compelling evidence that we are not alone in the universe, perhaps made first contact. But year after year, and false positive after false positive, to this day, we still have no evidence of intelligent life other than on our home planet Earth.
