I think that opening the door to attempted control of value through human intervention and manipulation , which we see how well that is working in our economy now. 

If it was all up to me, I would want the entire supply of a coin instantly distributed as fairly as possible. There is no known way to do this, so distributing over a period to the miners makes the most sense. Satoshi says a supply has to be distributed somehow, this method makes as much sense as any.

In my opinion, once the distribution of the supply is completed, the rest of the mechanisms are already in place for natural supply and demand forces to take affect. This includes a infinity divisible unit which already solves this issue by increasing the value of those that managed to not lose their coin, instead of punishing everybody to counteract the perceived losses of others
