I may be an outlier in saying this but I think you should try and talk to Justin Sun and Ned. It seems like Justin was sold some magic beans by Ned and exploring that side of the story is very interesting. I believe this is necessary or the perceived villains in the tale will be unrelateble.
Of course speak to all the people listed in other comments but exploring all sides will make it more compelling.

I find it difficult to visuals a film because most of this played out in a faceless manner. I always thought a computer game adaptation would be a more suitable genre. But, Good luck with the work. I will be interested to see where this leads.

1. Definitely the witnesses, but also talk to some community leaders and members here on Hive who moved ... get a sense of the pain and joy in the move over

3. A documentary, perhaps in the style of *The Smartest Guys In the Room*

- Probably as many of our witnesses as possible. But I think @starkerz and @theycallmedan can point you in the right direction. @edicted, @taskmaster4450, @thekittygirl, @crimsonclad and @shadowspub would be great people I'd imagine. 
    * I personally left Steem when Ned was crashing the price and came back after Hive was 4-5 months old. So I did miss a lot to be honest.

- @ned crashing the price of Steem and then selling it off to Justin. Maybe also make mention of the Ned and @dan break up leading to Ned totally fumbling steem.

- How Justin stole a crap load of money from our witnesses and whales.

- How Steem eventually failed. Theycallmedan, if I am not mistaken, tracked Justin selling off his steem majority stake anyways.

To answer your questions:
1. I think you should speak to the original developers, and some of the first community members but also it might be cool to have a chain-wide interview where people can answer a standard set of questions on video (or text or whatever) for possible inclusion in the project. Depends on what direction you end up taking I guess.

2. I can’t say I have anything new to add here that hasn’t already been covered in the other responses.

3. I’m leaning towards a documentary with both comedic and serious aspects. Some of what happened was pretty bizarre and it makes sense to own that.

While the Hive witnesses will be a great start and source of valuable information, the whole community matters, as not everyone can be a Hive witness. A questionnaire poll can help to get everyone (or at least various opinions) involved.

a) The Evolution Of Hive - How it all started. (b) Hive As a global community, getting some scenes from different continents as to the positive vibes impact Hive has on humanity, highlighting some charitable contributions the Hive community has made. This will create more publicity and a global appeal.

A mix of drama and comedy produced as a Series. But for a start, 1hr45mins movie will be cool. How most persons learnt about Hive will be cool.
