# Un faro que ilumina el camino hacia una mejor sociedad

Cada 11 de febrero se celebra el Día Nacional del Sociólogo en Venezuela, y aunque no soy sociólogo he tenido la suerte de conocer a varias personas que ejercen la sociología, un par de ellos fueron mis profesores universitarios en esos primeros años de carrera y sembraron en mí un profundo sentimiento por la reflexión social, además que con el pasar del tiempo mi carrera profundizó la importancia por la reflexión social. 

Así que teniendo presente que hoy 11 de febrero, Día Nacional del Sociólogo en Venezuela, celebramos con cada una de las personas que ejercen tal profesión la invaluable labor de estos profesionales que, con su mirada analítica  y sobre todo crítica, nos ayudan a comprender la compleja dinámica social. Considero que la sociología como ciencia social, y como rama de las humanidades se dedica a desentrañar las estructuras y procesos sociales, abarcando desde las interacciones de las personas en su individualidad hasta las macroestructuras que configuran el mundo.

Sin duda alguna la importancia de la sociología radica en el desarrollo de una sociedad justa, puesto que la sociología juega un rol determinante en la comprensión de las estructuras sociales, por lo que los sociologos en su proceso de investigación y análisis pretenden comprender los problemas sociales: 
Cosas tales como la desigualdad social, la pobreza, la violencia, la discriminación, y entre otros muchos factores que acaecen. Por ello dedican cierta atención en identificar las causas de estos problemas, algunos pueden ser producto de factores económicos, otros de políticos o culturales, y partiendo de un panorama amplio, poder desarrollar soluciones viables por medio de programas sociales e iniciativas colectivas.

Ahora bien, como toda disciplina humana sin duda pienso que la sociología posee además de lo que he mencionado, aportes trascendentales como por ejemplo fortalecer la participación ciudadana en la política y en los procesos sociales, quizá buscando promover mejoras en la democracia. Creo que la sociología es un punto de partida en el fortalecimiento de de la tolerancia y el respeto ciudadano. 

La calidad de vida es de esos aportes que la sociología trabaja constantemente y que no siempre se le agradece, ya que los sociólogos piensan constantemente en programas sociales o diseños de políticas publicas  que impacten positivamente en la vida de las personas.

Por otro lado me gustaría hacer una muy breve reflexión filosófica de sobre la sociología, y lo primero que viene a mi mente es pensar en la invitación que la sociología nos hace constantemente en el reflexionar sobre a naturaleza de la sociedad, las relaciones de poder, y algo que me llama mucho la atención es el pensar como se construye la identidad en el contexto social. Creo que hay que cuestionar las estructuras existentes y proponer alternativas que conduzcan a una sociedad mejorada en todos los aspectos posibles. 

Cada persona puede pensarse como un agente de cambio, ya que no solo formamos parte de la sociedad sino que le damos forma y le configuramos, respondemos a lo que ocurre y eso nos moldea directa o indirectamente. Hacer consciente que cada uno de nosotros puede aportar es sin duda algo valioso. Y se me ocurre hacer un llamado a la acción. 

Aunque no seamos sociologos, podemos aprender sobre eso que nos enseña la sociología,  y poder entender que esta disciplina es una herramienta poderosa que podemos o para decirlo un poco mejor, debemos utilizar para edificar un mejor porvenir para todos. Debemos sin lugar a dudas involucrarnos en el análisis de la realidad realidad social. Y desde la comunidad humanitas tenemos las puertas abiertas a abrazar reflexiones sobre lo social.

Así que con esta invitación a tomar cartas en el asunto, quizá podemos comenzar desde lo mas próximo a nosotros, a reflexionar el por qué en mi localidad se hacen las cosas de tal o cual manera, o por qué se dice tal cosa y no otra, es un buen punto de partida.

Every February 11 is celebrated the National Day of the Sociologist in Venezuela, and although I am not a sociologist I have had the good fortune to know several people who practice sociology, a couple of them were my university professors in those early years of my career and planted in me a deep feeling for social reflection, in addition that with the passage of time my career deepened the importance of social reflection. 

So, bearing in mind that today, February 11, National Sociologist's Day in Venezuela, we celebrate with each of the people who exercise this profession the invaluable work of these professionals who, with their analytical and above all critical look, help us to understand the complex social dynamics. I believe that sociology as a social science, and as a branch of the humanities, is dedicated to unraveling social structures and processes, ranging from the interactions of people in their individuality to the macrostructures that shape the world.

Undoubtedly the importance of sociology lies in the development of a just society, since sociology plays a determining role in the understanding of social structures, so sociologists in their research and analysis process seek to understand social problems: 
Things such as social inequality, poverty, violence, discrimination, and among many other factors that occur. Therefore, they devote some attention to identify the causes of these problems, some may be the product of economic factors, others of political or cultural, and starting from a broad overview, to develop viable solutions through social programs and collective initiatives.

Now, like all human disciplines, I undoubtedly think that sociology has, in addition to what I have mentioned, transcendental contributions such as strengthening citizen participation in politics and social processes, perhaps seeking to promote improvements in democracy. I believe that sociology is a starting point in the strengthening of tolerance and citizen respect. 

Quality of life is one of those contributions that sociology is constantly working on and is not always appreciated, since sociologists are constantly thinking about social programs or public policy designs that positively impact people's lives.

On the other hand, I would like to make a very brief philosophical reflection on sociology, and the first thing that comes to my mind is to think about the invitation that sociology constantly invites us to reflect on the nature of society, power relations, and something that strikes me is to think about how identity is constructed in the social context. I believe that we must question the existing structures and propose alternatives that lead to an improved society in all possible aspects. 

Each person can be thought of as an agent of change, since we are not only part of society but we shape and configure it, we respond to what happens and that shapes us directly or indirectly. To be aware that each one of us can contribute is undoubtedly something valuable. And it occurs to me to make a call to action. 

Even if we are not sociologists, we can learn about what sociology teaches us, and be able to understand that this discipline is a powerful tool that we can, or to put it a little better, we must use to build a better future for all. We must undoubtedly get involved in the analysis of social reality. And from the humanitas community we have the doors open to embrace reflections on the social.

So with this invitation to take matters into our own hands, perhaps we can start from what is closest to us, to reflect on why in my locality things are done in such and such a way, or why such and such a thing is said and not another, is a good starting point.
