I have an incredible monument in my city but before we can get to that part here's a few facts:

Burj Khalifa Height is approx 830 metres and it took 5-6 years too build it and then open it to everyone for use.

Or

Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is 55kms long bridge-tunnel system and it took them only 9 years to build it. It is currently the longest sea crossing despite a few issues and delays it ran into.

Now meet our incredible Mangalore's Pumpwell statue (also supposedly referred to as a flyover on the busy National Highway 66 by political leaders) has a height of 4.5 metres while NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) mandates something like 5.25 m or 5.5 metres for safe passage of tall heavy vehicles. This has been an issue with a few incidents in recent times. 

The length required is 600 metres or so, but actual length constructed so far is... (sshhh its a "completed statue" so who cares right??). 

Basically it has been a total failure in all cases and whatever has been constructed so far is quite unsafe for real use. The political will to get anything done efficiently and on-time is very poor.

The time taken to get this far has been around 9 years. That's some amazing work eh? I tell everyone not to forget to stop for pictures entering Mangalore city. 

The old Pumpwell circle (a major junction) actually looked good but now this turdy construction job sits there as an eyesore since the past few years.

This is the general pace of development no matter where you go in India. It surprises me sometimes that we get anything done at all.

But let's keep bickering amongst ourselves over religious matters and various other nonsense things in order to become a superpower by 2020. While the real superpower neighbour such as China runs circles around us.

This country is heading towards another general election and there's not a single good Member of Parliament (MP) I can vote for at the moment in my region. 

The business as usual here for politicians is always vote for my promises and then I "may" deliver something. It should change to vote for me because "I have already delivered" on my promises when they ae approaching a re-election. 

I'm sure there are hundreds of such issues in every city. Remember to cast your vote for those who really deserve it, and in the meantime look at the pace of development in our neighbouring China. It's astonishing to say the least! 

Well if that's what we want we need to act accordingly. Else, we'll continue to get what we deserve which historically with our politicians and choices of political parties has always been a great a pile of shit. 

I don't write much on politics generally but this issue deserves to be on the blockchain.
