Today is the day! After a full week of packing and sorting, everything Popi and I own is either in the truck with us or in a storage unit. Our cat Tulip is staying with some lovely friends, and we are on our way to [Bend, Oregon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bend,_Oregon). We have a 9 hour drive ahead of us, Popi volunteered to drive so I could do some writing(she's a dream). 

We have stocked up on our road trip necessities. We hit up the [Natural Grocers](https://www.naturalgrocers.com/) in our town and got some [Kombucha](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kombucha) that was on sale and a free pound of almond butter and other food items that we like to eat on the road.

#### Water ####
Water is one of those things that you just *have* to bring along when on the road. Life just isn't the same without water. When we travel in a car we always bring a couple GT's 1.4 liter kombucha bottles filled with water, and we refill these with water from a six gallon container we keep in the bed of the truck. This keeps us from buying  plastic bottles, and from consuming the various municipalities fluoridated tap water(the town we live in does not fluoridate the tap water, it really messes with us). We do buy water to fill our six gallon container with at [reverse osmosis](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_osmosis) dispensers. The best we have found in the west are located at Natural Grocers for $0.25 per gallon. They have the best reverse osmosis price per gallon I have seen on the road, Walmart can be above $0.33 per gallon from my experience. Also I trust Natural Grocers to clean the system properly and keep the reverse osmosis membranes up to date. We add [mineralizing drops](http://www.culturesforhealth.com/concentrace-trace-mineral-drops.html "From the Salt Lake!") to our RO water to avoid issues that could arise from drinking it for extended periods of time.

#### Road Food ####
For snacks and meals while rolling, we have almond butter (THANKS COUPON!), peanut butter, hummus, sugar snap peas, dried pineapple, yellow corn chips, and whole wheat tortillas. The passenger (me right now, obviously) can make any combination of those ingredients into a rolled tortilla and hand it to the driver. In this way we skip quickly through non-green states to get to states that don't kidnap people for consumption of a plant. We prefer to make stops in states that have legalized recreational cannabis or accept [my medical card](https://www.eastbayexpress.com/LegalizationNation/archives/2015/01/28/why-any-patient-can-go-get-medical-marijuana-in-california-right-now) on principle. 

#### Other Stuff ####

In the back seat our truck has a factory [inverter](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_inverter "Very useful") that is in constant use charging devices. On the center console is a phone running a mobile hotspot. I use this usually to do my online classes, but this time it is also being used for steemit. Also in the back seat are a couple of pillows and blankets so that the passenger can make themselves comfortable enough to sleep.

#### Where are we going? ####

Today, our goal is to get to through Idaho to Oregon and stay at our friends house for a night. On our itinerary for this journey takes us over a huge area of land. Bend, OR is where some of the people we met at the rainbow gathering live, we are going there to reconnect with them. After that we drive down to L.A. Where we will meet up with a fellow [Punta Mona](http://puntamona.org/) graduate and discuss his permaculture business [Global Food Forests](https://globalfoodforests.com/). Currently he is managing [raised beds](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raised-bed_gardening) around the city, and we would like to see how we can be a part of what he's doing. Along the way, I am going to review vegan restaurants and maybe a dispensary or two. I'm going to look for locations that accept bitcoin, and if we find any I'll be writing about those. At the end of our trip we will be attending [Jackalope Freedom Non-Event](http://jackfest.rayneberry.com/) in Arizona where hopefully we will see many of the individuals we met last year at the same location. <br>

Alright, Popi is asking me to drive now, so this is the end of the first part of my Take a Ride With Us! series which I will write while in a moving vehicle. This is going to be a blast! I hope you keep up with the next parts of this journey, I'm sure interesting things will happen along the way!
