<p><div class="text-justify">El hard bop no solo apareció a mediados de los años cincuenta como reacción al cool jazz y el West Coast jazz liderado por los músicos blancos, sino también por el declive del bebop, cuyos intérpretes en su mayoría se habían vuelto adictos a la heroína, llegando a un callejón sin salida debido a su estancamiento. La respuesta fue una renovación a partir de una mezcla del propio bebop con el góspel, el blues y el rhythm and blues llamada «hard bop». En este nuevo estilo se busca la inspiración en los géneros anteriores de la tradición musical afroamericana y sus características: fuerte sentido rítmico, acento en la síncopa y fuerza emocional. Además, los saxofonistas y pianistas añaden pinceladas de rhythm and blues, los contrabajistas van más allá de los cuatro tiempos al compás y los baterías tocan de manera más suelta que en el bebop.</div></p>
<p><blockquote><div class="text-justify">Hard bop appeared in the mid-50s not only as a reaction to cool jazz and West Coast jazz led by white musicians, but also because of the decline of bebop, whose performers had mostly become addicted to heroin, reaching to a dead end due to its stagnation. The answer was a renewal from a mixture of bebop itself with gospel, blues and rhythm and blues called “hard bop”. In this new style, inspiration is sought in the previous genres of the Afro-American musical tradition and their characteristics: strong rhythmic sense, accent on syncopation and emotional strength. Also, saxophonists and pianists add rhythm and blues brushstrokes, double bassists go beyond the four-beats-to-the-bar and drummers play more loosely than in bebop.</div></blockquote></p>

Entre los músicos más destacados se encuentran los saxofonistas altos Sonny Stitt, Jackie McLean y Cannonball Adderley, los saxofonistas tenores Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane y Johnny Griffin, los trompetistas Clifford Brown, Lee Morgan y Freddie Hubbard, y los guitarristas Kenny Burrell y Wes Montgomery entre otros.</div></p>

Sin más preámbulos, Mitchell hace su solo midiendo bien sus frases y enlazándolas con imaginación. Su discurso animado invita a tener buenos deseos. A continuación entra Kelly tocando frases rápidas llenas de notas saltarinas que parecen bailar alrededor del piano y vuelve Mitchell para tocar un breve pasaje y reexponer el tema.</div></p>
<p><blockquote><div class="text-justify">Once again we have a mid-tempo track, similar to the previous one, brimming with joy and zest for live. Without further ado, Mitchell takes his solo by measuring his phrases well and linking them with imagination. His upbeat speech invites to have good wishes. Kelly then enters playing fast sentences full of bouncy notes that seem to dance around the piano, and Mitchell returns to play a brief passage and re-expose the theme.</div></blockquote></p>
