<p><div class="text-justify">Ray Barretto era un percusionista norteamericano de jazz latino y jazz de origen puertoriqueño. Sus padres emigraron a Nueva York a principios de los años veinte y él nació en esta ciudad en 1929. Además de ser un excelente músico de estudio, también lideró diferentes bandas de jazz latino y publicó más de cuarenta álbums a lo largo de su carrera. Estos son más aventureros y eclécticos que los de los grupos de salsa convencionales. Tampoco tenía miedo de usar la electrónica ni las combinaciones instrumentales o estructurales novedosas. His parents immigrated to New York in the early 1920s and he was born in this city in 1929. In addition to being an excellent studio musician, he also led different Latin jazz bands and released more than forty albums throughout his career. These are more adventurous and eclectic than those of conventional salsa groups. Also, he wasn’t afraid of using electronics nor instrumental combinations or structural novelties. El primero en hacer su solo es Burrell a tiempo medio-rápido mientras Turrentine le acompaña por detrás. Sus frases surgen de su guitarra a borbotones de forma dinámica y consistente. Le sigue Turrentine con una línea melódica moderada con buenas ideas y muy bien concebida. Vuelve Burrell para intercambiar solos de cuatro compases con English alternándose con Turrentine. <p><blockquote><div class="text-justify">English gives a short introduction and the rest of the group joins in to lay out the theme, which has a bit of a strange part. The first to solo is Burrell at medium-fast tempo while Turrentine backs him up in the background. His phrases come out of his guitar in a dynamic and consistent way. Turrentine follows with a moderate melodic line with good ideas and very well conceived. Burrell returns to trade four-bar solos with English alternating with Turrentine. Then they trade solos, but this time with Barretto, who shows off his extraordinary conga playing. To conclude, the group re-exposes the theme ending abruptly.</div></blockquote></p>
